I have a Kenmore 80 Series Dryer around 13 years old. Dryer works fine with one exception. It is making a high pitch squeaking, screeching sound. It does seem to be as prevalent when it is empty, however, it is louder when full of clothes. I have gone so far as to remove the back and vacuum out all the dust and dirt. I would like to fix this myself. Any ideas on what it could be? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If the model number starts with 417. instead of 110. it has a rear bearing in it that needs to be replaced.i need the model number to help you.open the door and look around the opening and you'll see a tag with the number.

Check your belt for ware and watch toe idler wheels, they could wear out and make that kind of noise.

Dryer spontaneously turns on, barrel doesn't spin

If the dryer is more than 10-15 yrs old its probably a good idea to get another one...from what you told me it sounds like a pretty serious electrical problem or short with the Motor or control switch...I wouldn't suggest you try and fix this one yourself...

Need to know how to remove the motor on a Series 80 elec dryer.

The motor should be removable from the back and will require removal of the back panel. The bearings on these motors are brass "bushing" type, not ball bearing. You may have some success oiling them with a straight weight oil like 30w, but it may not last too long. Once the bushings start to go, it's usually time to replace the motor. You should be able to get another motor for the unit from Sears Parts Direct. I applaud your efforts!

I don't think they can be, but, also take a look at the fan bearing assembly too. You should be able to isolate if the noise is from the motor bearings or blower bearings.
