Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Flickering problems Hi, I bought a Playstation 3 about 2 weeks ago, and everything was fine. But now when I turn it on, the screen starts shaking and flickering whenever I get something like a title page, or a piracy notice on a DVD. Movies and games will flicker and shake, then stop, then flicker and shake again. Even the introduction screen whenever I turn it on flickers and shakes. I even tried to changing the cables, but no luck. I also tried to reset the system to defaults, and that did not work either. Any suggestions?

The flickering is most likely due to a faulty fluorescent backlight. Once the bulb heats up the flickering usually goes away. Some bulbs are easier to replace than others so I would contact your local TV repair shop.

Just bought a ps3 two weeks ago. Played games just fine and everything worked well. We watched a movie last night. Turned off the system and went to bed. The next morning we tried turning it on but it...

This may be a simple fix. Do you still have the original cable that came with it for the video OUT? Plug this back into your playstation and TV while leaving the HDMI cable connected.
check now both HDMI channels and AV/Composite options on your source selection this should give you the display,
Now what we need to do is setup your HDMI output again.
From the menu bar,
  • Go to settings
  • Display Settings
  • Video output settings
  • choose HDMI
if you have the choice to choose OK choose it. If your screen goes blank go through your HDMI channels again and if the Playstation screen is there then select OK,
Then you can remove the composite cable again

You need to try a new HDMI cable.. Cheap HDMI cables do that? I had the same thing happen to me... I switched the HDMI cable and it fixed mine.

Monitor flashing

I have a similar problem with my screen, same one, 15". For a period of two years it would turn black for an instant and resume functioning. Since two weeks it only flashes the picture for an instant and then turns black again. We opened it up to check the wiring but nothing wrong there. We are 99.99% sure that the problem is in the screen itself and has nothing to do with drivers or anything else in the computer.
If you bought it less than 3 years ago and since it is probably a result of faulty construction, it should fall under warranty (by european law).
I am going to take mine to a repairman tomorrow, i will inform you wether the screen can be repaired or not.

Greetings,
Rengenier.
