Hi im wesley. the stick is most likely broken please make sure that you safely remove the sticks but if you do then the stick is faulty.

Tip

Test your pen drive / USB sticks with H2testw

H2testw was developed to test USB sticks for various kinds of errors. It can also be used for any other storage media like memory cards, internal and external hard drives and even network volumes. The executable file H2testw.exe needs no installation and can be directly run. It was developed for Windows XP and Vista. It should also work under Windows 2000 but was only tested on XP and Vista. Windows 9x/ME is not supported. You can use the older command line program H2test under these operating systems. The function of H2testw is quite simple: It fills the chosen target directory with test data and then reads it back and verifies it. H2testw does not overwrite or erase any existing data. It doesn’t do any low-level tricks so administrator privileges are not required. If your hardware is working properly H2testw will not harm any existing data. You can download it from here

Format pc without cd

You could use a copy of bartpe on a usb stick. same with windows if you know how to copy your original cd properly. Its actually pretty easy I have both bartpe and xp pro on a single stick and used it to install to an older compaq that had no cd drive. setting up the stick for bart pe can be a little bit of a challenge but there is plenty of help on the web for it.
Same with how to copy your original xp cd.

G'Day! I have a Transcend 2 GB USB stick. Whenever I connect it to my computer or any other computer, I get this error message ''THIS USB DEVICE CAN PERFORM FASTER IF YOU CONNNECT IT TO HIGH SPEED USB 2.0...

Yes. The problem is you don't have usb 2.0 ports on your motherboard. Its the second generation usb port. So if you want to upgrade you can buy additional hardware to upgrade this. But your motherboard has to be compatible with that additional peripheral too. As an example buses of your motherboard. So you have to check that also when you purchase. This is not a problem. The only thing is it will reduce the efficiency of your pen drive (Access time etc.). Other usb sticks you have may be usb 1.1 devices.
:)
If this is helpful to you, please rate this .
Thanks.

I have a dell and i loaded it w/ windows xp and the modem wouldn't work so i reinstalled the modem and now the pc will start up w/ windows and turns off w/ a black screen .i 've done safe mode ect.i can i...

This particular error sticks it ugly face out when windows detects that a hard drive with the OS has lost its connection to the system.

That in plain english means that windows cannot initialize your hard drive, I assure you it has to do with windows xp and your system configuration. The simplest way to solve this would be to enter your bios setup and set your Sata mode to emulate an ATA drive.

What windows is doing is trying to look for drivers for your HDD it can't find them and therefore doesn't know how to get it workin so it stops. Go into your dell bios and in there you will see an option like this.

Sata/ATA - select this option for ATA emulation and therefore not drivers
Sata/AHCI - select this option for auto detect, normally the default, generally needs drivers, if there are disks configured for one of the raid modes, the system detects this.
Sata/RAID - select this option if you always have raid drives.

You want to select the very first one. If you for some reason can't do this or it doesn't work but it will. Then you will need a dell xp cd or have to create your own xp cd reinstall xp and include your third party raid drivers from dell's website.

Please rate my solution

Do you have a usb stick? If so, then go online and find the files you need and download them to the usb stick and go from there.

Usb ports not picking up memory stick

Is it just Memory Stick, or everything that you plug into USB?
Try following:
  1. plug in other USB device into ports
  2. if it does not detect any USB device on any port on your computer
  3. if both front and back USB do not work it may be taht USB is turned off in BIOS, or USB driver is corupted
  4. If you have front USBs and they just do not work there is wire connecting them to the motherboard since it may be loose, if connection is OK than they are dead.
  5. If just back USB do not work than they are dead>
