Question about Gateway GT5228 PC Desktop

Computer won't start normaly

When I push the power button on the computer it either starts or the blue light will just stay on. I then have to hold the button in and shut it off and try again. Sometimes it will start the first time or it could take several attempts. Tried new power supply, it seemed to help a little put old one back in still having problem. Replaced hard drive about 2 months ago after it crashed, start up was normal for 2 months. Warranty expired.

I have sent a complaint to the BBB in CA. due to the fact so many other have the problem. Gateway lost the fact I called and they had offered me a motherboard but they retracted. I know it is a common problem and hope many will let gateway know and maybe they willl do what HP did (I heard about the fact they offered new motherboards to all who where effect in or out of warrenty when they had a bad one). In fact Leslie at gateway keeps saying I've been out of warrenty for 2 years when I bought the machine in 12/06, so I am not expecting lost of help but would like it if everyone who is dealing with this contacts the bbb-heck maybe a lawyer will do a class action suit for us all since I paid over 699 for the tower alone! Meanwhile I am on my own also. The computer company told me not to bother to fix as it happens again it is that motherboard.

This is most likely do to a bad stick of RAM.
Try taking out all but one stick of ram and try booting. If it still doesn't boot try changing the stick out with another one you pulled (might be the stick you left in that is the problem)

In the case that it is bad RAM go to your local computer shop and get some new RAM for the computer or check if Gateway will replace the RAM.

If there is any display that comes on the monitor such as a 2 digit code try searching that or posting here with the code.

Power button not turning computer on

this is most likely a short in a computer component, You need to unplug everything from the computer incl CPU, Memory, Add on Cards, Hdds, the lot, just have motherboard plugged in and push power, if it powers up (there won't be a pic but you will know it's working) start replacing parts one by one until it won't start and that is the faulty part. If it does nothing with just motherboard plugged in the motherboard is at fault and needs to be replaced, If you have had the motherboard out make sure no of the metal mounts in the case are shorting out anywhere under the motherboard as this will also cause the same fault.

When I push the start button on my old Compaq Presario 7000 Desktop PC the power light above the button goes on and the file access light to the left of the button goes on and both stay on. I don't hear...

Try doing a power flee.. that is..

remove the power cable from the computer and all the usb devices if connected and the then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then try rebooting the computer.

Another possibility is that.. computer is not able to find the boot sector on the harddisk due to which its not able to turn on completely.

Another possibility is that the device boot order of the computer might have changed too in the BIOS. To resolve it easily we need to chat with each other, so reach us at hnetworking.com

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that won't start. The battery light would flash orange 4 times then blue once, and then start over with the same sequence. Pulled the power board and fixed the solder joints on...

This is directly from the User Manual:
If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the Battery light operates as follows:
• Solid green: The battery is charging.
• Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.
If the computer is running on a battery, the light operates as follows:
• Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).
• Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.
• Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.

Your cpu might have died. As the computer is starting tap F8 and choose last known good configuration to see if you can get it started.

2. while holding these, press the [power] button on the side of TV (NOT remote)
3. blue light comes ON and stays ON
4. wait 10 seconds then let go of [menu] and [vol-]
5. wait another 30 seconds and some type of picture should appear

I think this is right. I got it from the JVC call centers guys so sorry if I missed or messed up a step.
