Screen is Black, light I'm in a dark black room black
I turn it on, and the screen is black. Not black like it's broken and not working, but black like I'm in a completely black room, and everything is black. When I click on the printer button near the bottom, it shows me 4 photographs, all pretty in color and all, but once I try to take a picture, everything is black. I've tried reseting the camera, which obviously didn't work, or those 4 pictures wouldn't be on the camera when I click on the printer. Help!! I bought this for my daughter for her birthday, she's used it twice and now won't work.

Hi there. I think this will work for you. (You may have to go to a really bright room or shine a flashlight on the screen, so you can see, since it is dark right now.)
Go into the menu and navigate to monitor settings. Go to Brightness and there are 5 choices you can make to brighten the screen to your liking. - Let me know if that works for you and give me a vote.
This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Faulty main or secondary board. Could also be faulty light sensor or iris. Not a user fixable problem unless you can get another f601 with a broken lens etc with good boards (to replace boards). Or a dead camera with good lens assembly (contains iris). Very fiddly if you have the parts!!!!!!
