Red sideways hourglass

I have a 60pw9363 and im getting like a red sideways hourglass. its like a red shadow arch on the top and bottom of screen. there is a red shadow like 3d on picture. I tried to adjust the convergence but the red wont move enough to align. sometimes if i turn the set off and on about 6-8 times its ok, but if the screen on the tv changes then the red is back. i talked to a tv repairman over the phone, he said it was the red tube, be $500 to fix. seems like after reading a little here that it might be ICs. Can you help me with this problem? and parts i might neeed?

Same thing happened here. We were able to adjust it out enough to watch TV somewhat normally, but there is a bend to everything. How do I remove and replace the fried chip? How much will it cost to have a repairman do it?

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.red sideways hourglass - 2c07611.png/>2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

The 3 colors are off, i have shadows and arches in the screen

It is failure of convergence ICs and these two ICs will be replaced on D board.
If you are comfortable with TV repair and know good soldering skills then can do the job easily.
Convergence ICs are mounted with sliver heat-sink on D Board of TV and part number will start with letter STK...

Convergence. shadowing, arch top and bottom, red and green colors

You have a convergence problem. i see these set all the time at shop. first consult the article in tips and tricks section the fl231 fuse problem. it might provide some answer and might turn out to be a simple repair. If you do not have the convergence option under setup in customer menu then i say you have that problem.. otherwise it sounds like a convergence power board issue. if you have the options try autocovergence first and then if that fails try manual convergence of red and blue if the dont move then it will be convergence power board. let me know and ill try to talk you through it

replace the convergence ICs STK392-120 you will need both of them also check the 6.8 ohm resistors right next to the ICs as often 1 or 2 of them burn open. You should be able to notice the discoloration in the center of the resistors.
