Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kenmore 70 series washer

You were right. The dog ears are completely stripped. I am having some trouble getting to them though. The cam driver (I think that's what its called) won't come out. It sits on top of the dog ears. It appears to have two tabs (at the bottom) that hold it in place but I can't get them to move. Any suggestions?

Pull agitator completely out ..set on floor place feet against bottom and pull top part up sharply..when you get ready to reinstall break tabs off set bottom part back in first and while holding cam in place set top part back in.. may be difficult holding dogs and tabs in but not impossible

My washing machine wont spin

The dogs inside the agitator are probably stripped. Take the cap off the top of the agitator and you will see four what we call dog ears. Real easy to change. Cost about $30.

What can I do to help prevent my dog from getting an ear infection? I clean his ears regularly; however he still seems to be getting infections.

I found a great natural remedy that works in preventing ear infections in dogs. I use it for my dogs and they have been ok for almost a year now.

THE FOLLOWING ALL NATURAL REMEDY
PREVENTS EAR INFECTIONS! This recipe is not meant to be used with Zymox. This should only be used once the ears are completely healed.

Keep in mind that it "will not" cure an existing ear infection.

Once you get your dog's ears to a healthy state either by using Zymox like we recommended or with the help of an antibiotic from your veterinarian, start using the following remedy weekly to prevent future infections. This works by raising the Ph level in the dogs ears.

Purchase an eye dropper bottle and the following ingredients
from your local pharmacy.

2 Tablespoons of Boric Acid
4 ounces of Rubbing Alcohol
1 Tablespoon of Glycerine

Shake the bottle before each use to thoroughly mix. Place a small eyedropper full into each ear. Cup the dog's ear and massage gently. Allow the dog to shake his head and gently blot dry any excess on the outside of the ear.
Do this weekly.

If ANY IRRITATION occurs - STOP using the recipe immediately!

Should I give my dog pigs ears?

I have read a lot of forums about this and it seems as though they are not that popular among dog owners. A lot of them say that the pigs' ears make their dogs sick with loose stools and others say that their vets have told them that pigs' ears are crawling with bacteria. So I wouldn't advise you to give them. Check out this forum: http://www.dogforums.com/dog-food-forum/951-pigs-ears-bad.html

Agitator wobbling from the stem. it comes right

Those are the agitator dog ears. They have teeth that grip and turn the top agitator during the wash cycle. It must be replaced when damaged or worn.
  1. Unplug the washer.
  2. Remove the fabric softener dispenser by pulling it off the agitator top.
  3. Look for the prying location on the agitator cap and insert a flat blade screwdriver between the agitator cap and the agitator then pry the cap off.
  4. Use a socket wrench, usually 7/16", with extension to remove the stud and seal holding the agitator to the shaft.
  5. Pull the top agitator from the bottom agitator.
  6. Pull the cam that holds the agitator dog ears from the top agitator.
  7. Lay the cam on its top and install the agitator dog ears on their slots.
  8. Hold the cam on one hand and the top agitator on the other.
  9. Slide the cam up into the top agitator and turn it over so that the agitator dog ears do not fall off.
  10. Reinstall the top agitator into the bottom agitator.
  11. Reinstall the agitator assembly into the shaft.

The aggitator is not working right ..it seems to spin like a nut on a stripped bolt.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured washer, the problem is very simple, inexpensive and easy to repair.

Whirlpool has a split agitator design. The upper portion is called the auger, while the bottom is called the agitator. Between these components is a agitator cam assembly. This problem is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs, worn agitator cam assembly, or a loose agitator bolt. The following link explains what the dogs are and how to replace them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

The part number is included in the link provided. You can purchase replacements at pcappliancerepair.com for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit, which includes the cam, the thrust bearing, and the dogs for about $11 or $12.

NOTE: You can refer to the excellent exploded view parts diagrams the web site has to offer for assistance. Whirlpool also recommends the application of a little grease on the thrust washer. The part number for their recommended grease is AP3098553.

If you have any questions about this repair, please post back with your complete model number (located on a nameplate along the wash tub opening under the lid) and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: DO NOT overtighten the agitator bolt. This can cause damage to the plastic, or restrict the agitator movement. Tighten until snug only.

WEAK AGIATOR

Does the agitator shaft turn real easy or does it stop or keep from turning 360. It should have limits and not free wheel or turn around and around. Does it spin correctly? Most generally the parts you are looking for would be accessed from beneath the unit. Not sure about what dog ears are but there are plastic pieces that make the unit shift from agitate to spin on some models. If it has slight resistance to turning the agitator shaft but will turn 360 the gear in the transmission is probably stripped out. Do a little looking from the bottom and turn the shaft while looking at the bottom to see if you can tell what is out. You might find broken parts on the floor under the machine...

Cam is not completing installation and setup

I found the solution the drivers on the disc buy shipped are not the right drivers. NOR are the newest ones on Logitech's site. Uninstall them and use this instead:

Agitator won't spin back and forth like its stripped

I think what you have going here is some worn agitating ears. In the appliance world we call them dog ears. You have to remove the fabric desp, it should just pop off. Under there will be a cap that you can grab with a needle nose pliers and pull the cap off. Now you will be looking at the bolt that holds the agitator to the shaft. Remove this bolt and you can get to the dog ears and plastic bearing. There is a kit for this and the part number is 3951682. This is not a hard fix...just take your time and observe. Catriver...post back.
