Question about GE JVM1653 Microwave Oven

Microwave door has burnt patch: is it safe to operate?

My daughter put a metal dish in the microwave and now we have a burnt spot on the door. It burnt through the plastic and the mesh underneath looks singed although still there. Should we arrange a service call or just buy a new one? It is about 3 years old.

If the metal mesh is intact, that's the most important thing, even if it is singed a little.

What I would suggest is peeling off the stick-on plastic sheet, cleaning the area thoroughly (do not spray, use a damp cloth) and then allowing it to dry completely.

Next lightly sand the area where the metal mesh if singed, if necessary. You can then apply some paint to cover that area of the mesh.

Once the paint is dry, you can apply a new stick-on plastic sheet and you're good to go.

I can probably help you in ordering one if you reply back with your brand and model number.

From your other post:

The paint should be available at big box stores like Wal-Mart, home improvement centers like Builder's Square, Lowe's, or Home Depot, or hardware stores or local appliance parts stores.

You can order the plastic sheet (called the "door film") here. It is part # WB06X10490.

Be sure the mesh is clean and dry before installing the new film.

I need to know if its safe to operate a microwave on a metal chrome wire shelf similar to a bakers rack which can hold 100 pounds per shelf

some microwaves are able to accepa a metal object others are not.
If your microwave ever came with a rack or a temp. probe made from metal then you can add a rack, newer microwaves bounce the microwaves better than older ones, thus the ability for the microwaves to bounce better.
Older microwaves direct the microwaves to a pinpointed center of oven, so what happens when there's metal in the focus area?
It bounces straight back to the transmitter which in turn over heats.resulting in a burnt out microwave transmitter.
good luck,Gary

see the troubleshooting section and follow the steps and fix it.

Waveguide Cover

If the microwave is sparking or arcing the waveguide cover might be damaged and shorting out. Try removing the waveguide cover and see if the problem goes away. If there are any damaged spots in the microwave ceiling or sidewalls, repair them and paint them with microwave oven paint. Replace the waveguide cover if it is burnt or if it will not stay in place.

I need to know how to operate my Kenwood KGTS23 Microwave. I put it on, operate it on how I understood it, but it doesn't warm my food (it remains cold) Please where can I get a user guide/manual for...

Use a microwave safe dish and put in some water. Now open door and keep the dish on the glass plate. Close the door, select the power to be medium or high. Or choose a fast cook. Press 0 and the start button as the microwave should start up. If there is no heat after the cycle then it is possible that the magnetron, the capacitor or the fuse is open.

My daughter put a metal ring in the microwave to heat up. I was not there, so I did not know what happen and if sparks flared up. But the microwave kept working OK for half a day before acting crazy. ...

There really shouldn't be a correlation between the metal ring in the oven cavity and the erratic operation of the control board. Although it might seem suspicious, what happens inside the oven cavity stays in the oven cavity.

The film on the inside of the microwave oven door has bubbled & is raised off the glass. Is it safe to use.

No, that must be patched or replaced. It's critical.

The film protects the door screen from getting food, grease or moisture in it, which can lead to corrosion and arcing.

The screen prevents microwave energy leakage, which can cause arcing and fire.

If the bad spot is not too big, you can cut it away and clean it squeaky clean and patch it with clear packing tape.

If it's too bad to patch, you'll have to see if you can get new film, or if you need to order the inner door panel or whole door.

Turn table shattered while making pop corn. Cuisinart ModelCmw100

You can order a replacement dish here. The dish shattered because the heat from the bag of popcorn was too much for it. If you look at the owner's manual for almost every microwave, they tell you not to put popcorn directly on the glass dish, but to put it on another plate.

The oven should be safe to use. Just look for any burned spots on the paint in the bottom of the cooking cavity.
