So everytime I try to sign into xbox live, it says it's failed. I've tested the conection, and everything passes until it gets to DNS. I check the settings and the spot for the user name and password is empty. I fill it in and try again and this time it says my ip address has failed. I go to type my ip address in and it say it fails. I go back to reset to factory settings, which gets my ip address back but erases the additional settings. Evertime I enter one the other is erased. If anyone could help me that would be great.
U have to call ur isp enter and ask him to provide u withe the dns address then go on ur xbox on
(System/networck setting/edite settig / dns setting ) and enter the dns address withche ur isp give it to u

have you tested the Internet connection? what are you using wireless or wired? this isue comes up sometimes when you use wireless and it looses signal... this can happen if the xbox is too far from the wireless router OR there is interfearence ebtween the 2 devices (microwave, wireless phones, etc.)
Corrupt File (microsoft cant let you recover gamertag due to mods hacks and such) that is possibly what has happened. You downloaded a corrupt file and now microsoft has found something wrong. You can no only make a new gamertag and ask for free xbox live for compensation. (you might get it)
you need to open the port that the update is trying to go through. the easiest way is to turn your firewall off, but this opens up your security. another way is to forward the correct port through port forwarding on your router. findout which port xbox live uses and put in the information to the router
