When you turn it with your hands , just give it a spin, you will see if is hanging to one side, or if its running rough or gets hard to turn

My dryer just started making a loud sound and the drum isnt turning

Could be the drive belt has come off or is broken or if it is gear driven, then it's possibly the gearbox has failed. New belt a piece of cake, new gearbox?, time to price it against a new dryer.

Something catching on drum

is it noisy in the spin cycle?on the back wall of the drum it looks like a peace sign, this is where the spider gear and or rear bearing is,the gear can crack from overloading or using to much detergent, this could be what you're hearing as you move the drum,if it's something between the tub it will end up in the pump but most likely it's from the spider gear,i've seen this before, when it starts to pin fast gravity pins the broken part to the side but when you move the drum by hand you can hear it,use it and keep an eye on it,if your washer starts getting loud in the spin you'll know it's the spider gear,it would cost more to fix it than have it repaired so this means new washer time.

Washing machine drum does not turn

You need to know if your machine is band driven(older model) or gear driven(newer model). Google model to find out or look it up in manual if you have it.
If older model the rubber belt is broken and needs to be replaced OR if newer model the gear that turns the drum is burned out and needs to be replaced. Either way, it best to have a service tech come out and fix it. The rubber band might be old and hard to find & if gear & motor are gone may be too expensive to fix, cheaper to buy another unit.

Interior drum is loose. The satin less steel drum on the inside seems to have come loose. The outside part is well seated and secure but the interior drum seems to have become loose.

if the drum bangs all around and is noisy when it's spinning the spider gear is broke.usually it breaks from using to much detergent,in a front load washer you use less water so you need less detergent, you should be using 1/4 cup of h.e. detergent, any more than that damages the spider gear, the metal that it's made out of is like a metal stud that you would use when framing a wall, the extra detergent gets in there and it's like sand paper it eats at the metal and it breaks and the drum feels loose.unfortunetly it's time for a new washer, the gear costs around 4 to 5 hundred dollars not including the can check to see if one or both shocks are broken or check the springs on the top sides under the top panel but it sounds like the spider gear to me.

My washer will start but it will just make a winding sound

Sounds like the motor to drum belt or gear is broken. The motion generated by the motor is not getting to the drum because the belt is slipping or broken, or the gears are stripped causing the winding sound.

Drum bangs while turning

if the tub is banging all around and very noisy in the spin cycle it's time for a new washer.the spider gear is broken, this happens from using to much detergent, the front load washers use very little water so you should only be using very little detergent and it should be H.E. detergent.the spider gear costs around 500 bucks and the detergent eats at it like acid, let me know how you make out
