Question about Sony KDS-60A2000 60" HDTV
I have had this recurring problem now for a couple of months now. After a couple hours of viewing the TV makes a clicking noise then shuts itself off. The led then blinks red four times. Unplug the set and wait 30 minutes or so then plug tv back in and it will turn on. Now it ill not turn on. If I open and then slam the door shut on the right side, I think this door is for one of the lamp replacement covers, it will come back on for another couple hours of viewing. The set is out of warranty and Sony claims that this is not an issue with a lot of sets. I thought it was an overheating problem,I took off the back of the set and blew out all of the dust I could find. This did not help. The thing that puzzles me is the fact that the set will come back on after slamming the door. Anyone else either have the same problem or have any ideas on how to fix this?
It certainly sounds like a thermal problem. I would look to the (3) cooling fans as the most likely culprit. Since this model will normally give an error indication (blinking lights and no picture) at startup if it detects a fan failure, my guess is that there one of the fans is underperforming, but not yet completely failed. This is commonly caused by dust/pet hair/smoking residue on the fans themselves, or in the airways that bring in fresh air and exhaust hot air. If the set is located near a heat register, radiator, or other heat source, that could also contribute to the fault you are describing. Whatever the cause, experience tells me that no good can come from repeatedly slamming any part of a high end piece of home theatre equipment. I would not advise continuing this practice.
