Re: WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR SE 500 GB
Hi, looks like your usb drive has died. Try it on another pc / laptop first. If it still does not work, you will need to purchase drive data reader while will allow you to access the data. Most pc stores carry them. Cost about 50 euros. Best of luck.

If the hard drive is not faulty then, remove the hard drive from the computer and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will see this as an external storage device. You can the open the various folders and files to copy and or back up your data.
My friend it sounds like your hard drive. I know thats not what you want to hear. But don't worry there is hope! You can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company which I highly recommend:
I have a Western External Hard Drive 320 and when I plug it in the computer will recognize it and allow me to access my files but after a short while if I go to click on a file t open it the WD 320 will click off for a minute and then reappear in the auto run mode.

Have you installed it as the main drive, ie the one with the ops system on, or have you installed it as a secondary drive? Either way, check you have the drive set up correctly as per instructions on pack. You are not alone with this problem either, it is common with WD. Come back to me with more info re your install.
Personally, I would set it up in an external enclosure and access via USB. Much more realable that way, and it is portable for you.
