This sounds like my problem, but I'm not quite sure what caused it. I did take it to the beach, but to the best of my knowledge it didn't get dropped in sand, but it was extremely hot. And I can hear it trying to focus, when I turn it on there is an especially weird sound. Would love any help! TIA!

I have the same problem. Didn't have it at the beach, it's just stopped focussing. It will take a picture in focus as long as I don't change the zoom on it, then all teh pictues are blurry and it won't focus.

If this is a Casio camera (EX-Z70,75,77 OR SIMULAR) and it is making a buzzing type noise, the sand has jammed up the focus gears at the back of the lens.

The only sure way to fi this fault is to fully dismantle the camera, clean out all the sand grains and repolish the focus gears.

This will not be a budget cost repair.

Sorry for the bad news :-(

Go to google and post your camera brand and error message in the browser.

there are several sites that will tell you how to trouble shoot your camera.

for the sand, try using shop vac with the mini tool attachments. chances are the sand grain are your problem

On my sony A200 camara .. I have a grinding noise when turning camara on and off from lens and sometimes when last bit of auto focus pictures are still good

it sounds like you have some sort of dirt or sand in the lens mechanism. this also could be a symptom if the camera was recently dropped.

if you can, try getting some condensed air and spray what you can in the cracks. if you aren't comfortable doing that, you can take it to a camera shop and have it cleaned.

the same thing happened to my camera and eventually, the lens wouldn't come retract, thus rendering the camera useless.

hope that helps.

Focus

Could this be failing batteries? If you don't use the flash and keep the camera on the same subject so it doesn't need to refocus between shots, what happens then?

Focusing Problem

hi, if you can open your camera and remove the lens unit assy(just be carefull to the flat cable its easy to be broken) you can clean by yourself just to remove the sand goes inside of the lens unit and also to the gear.make it sure you need to use magnifying glass to see the small pc of sand .some time the sand goes to the gear that cause of malfunction or not rotate properly and also the focus gear have also sand that why the focus is bad.if you can't do this just bring to service center and request for cleaning.

thank you

Autofocus malfunction

This camera is a great unit living in Iraq is not good for these camera because sand gets inside of the lens unit causing it to bind up and stop auto focusing. Some times this can be cleared up by taking off the lens and gently tapping it glass down to try and free up the dirt or in your case sand. if the fails take the lens and blow it out with high pressure air from both sides the problem is the ultra sonic motor that controls the auto focus is clog with sand causing you issue the problem 99% is your issue. hope this helps.

i suggest pointing the camera to an image which has more contrast as opposed to pointing it into a clear blue sky which has no clouds at all. the AF might have some trouble looking for cue to focus. go manual focusing and see the difference.

THIS SOUNDS TERMINAL, BUT YOU MIGHT TRY USING CANNED AIR LIKE YOU USE TO BLOW DUST OUT OF YOUR COMPUTER, AND SEE IF IT HELPS ANY. MOST OF THESE CAMERAS ARE MADE WITH THE IDEA THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE TAKEN APART OR OPENED FOR CLEANING ETC. SO, THAT IS THE ONE PROBLEM YOU ARE FACING. I DOUBT IF IT WOULD BE WORTH SPENDING THE MONEY TO SEND IT IN TO BE CLEANED. THAT CAN GET VERY EXPENSIVE IN A HURRY, PLUS TAKE A GOOD MONTH OR MORE FOR THE REPAIR. SORRY, I CAN'T HAVE MORE CHEERY NEWS, BUT THINGS LIKE THIS JUST AREN'T TAKEN INTO ACCORD WHEN THEY MAKE THESE CAMERAS. IF I CAN HELP MORE JUST REPLY TO:

Canon SD1000 blurred pictures and blurred LCD, Camera wont focus! please help ive had it for 2 weeks

The best chance to use your SD1000 is to set to picture, push ISO (on top of the func. set ring) and set to hi. This works pretty well. Do not bother sending any camera to Canon, they charge the "standard charge" plus for all their manufacturing problems on all Canon cameras. Definately the worst customer service on the market.

Out of focus

Sounds like the camera is trying to focus if you hear sound when pressing the shutter halfway down or zooming. If the noise is a scraping or grinding sound, you might have debris stuck between the cracks of the lens and the camera body. This happened to me after i dropped my canon sd550 on the beach just once and it never recovered. Next to water sand has got to be one of a camera's worse enemy. Also, the lens might be cocked a bit which would prevent the camera from focusing and zooming smoothly. Try gently adjusting the the lens. Sometimes the slightest imperfection in the lens will throw everything off. Good luck!

hi speedster, Obviously it is happened due to sand getting in the camera and i also hope that water not getting in the camera. i suppose lens drive that is very delicate get jamming due to sand or it may be short circuit due to water. i think that's why your picture is out. so go to casio shop. good luck....
