Question about Olympus VN-3100PC Digital Voice Recorder
I got a "chk" error code blinking on the screen. what should i do to be able to use the recorder again ? txs
I had a similar sounding problem my Olympus VN-5000. I would turn it on, it would show "CHK" for a few seconds, and then "ERR." This persisted despite fresh batteries. The "ERR" message reportedly means a memory error. I found a solution, which appears to reformat the memory. Try to press the STOP and DISP/MENU buttons at the same time for about 2 seconds, and then the display should show "FOR". It will supposedly erase the whole memory, but will at least make the device usable again! I hope this solution works for your model...

Something to add to the above solution:
6: When I tried this, I had to leave the recorder plugged in for several minutes before it reverted from CHK to PC, but it did eventually fix itself.

This is a tricky problem but I finally took care of it.
1. Ditch your old batteries.
2. Get new batteries. Do not replace the batteries yet.
3. Connect your recorder to your PC with Wave Recorder installed. The message should change from "CHK" to "PC".
4. Put new batteries in the device.
5. Hurray, you're done !
