Daughters necklace caught in washing bin holes

Mom's fault, I forgot to check my little one's pockets and her necklace is caught in one of the holes. About 3" with the charms are on the part hanging out.

Should I cut it off as close to the machine hole or should I cut the charms off and let the rest of the metal chain just stay there.

If I cut it close what will happen down below with the cut off part of the necklace... will it jam up something?

The people at Sears said we just sell them, we don't know about them, Ha!

Thank you in advance...

Jackie

If you cut the chain what is left could possible work its way into drain pump. Jamming it.

This was sooooo helpful. Thank you Thank you, the service person was going to...

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F21” error code.

“F21” is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

  1. First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
  2. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
  3. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
  4. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

I think my necklace fell thru the holes of my Kenmore 70 series washing machine. How can I check if it is under the drum.

The link to the video will show how to gain access to the inside of the washing machine. I did not create the video.

Follow the safety guidelines in this video and those that came with your machine. This may well be a two-person project, especially if the machine is installed in tight quarters.

  • Take your time.
  • Be safe.
  • Use the proper tools.
  • Do not get frustrated and break any of the parts, after all, you want the machine to function again after you find your necklace.

Take pictures of screws, brackets, covers, etc. before you remove them to make reassembly easier.

You may be able to see your necklace and remove it without disassembling the washer as fully as described in this video. To be prepared for that have the following on hand:
  1. flashlight
  2. GrabEasy Grabber and Retriever PF0401 The Home Depot
(I have a similar tool and use it frequently)

I have a Maytag MAV6200AWW Atlantis Washer. A necklace got caught in one of the bottom holes of the plastic tub - It must be knotted on the other side, as I can not pull it through. I do not want to break...

There is no "simple" way. Under the part with the holes is the tub without holes that holds the water in. If the neclace breaks it will go to the drain pump and most likely be blown out the drain. However you can try putting a few drops of vegetable oil on the necklace allowing it to go down below, and wiggle it around in an effort to untangle it.

I think my daughter left necklace in laundry. I

Unfortunately there is no filter for these. You might get lucky and be able to remove one of the drum paddles inside the tub, and on some models there is a hole where you can see between teh tubs. Even then it'll be pure luck if the necklace is in the right place. Otherwise, it's just a matter of waiting until it goes into the pump, and likely jams it and needs to be removed.

Hole in pump caused by coin -- causing flooding

There is no screen! I bet it was a dime that was caught in the pump. It has happened to me several times to the point where we double check all pockets when loading washer. Coins larger than a dime stay in drum or in lower basket. Poor design! I now leave the back of washer loosened and have mastered pulling hose off the PLASTIC pump housing and reaching in to pull out the coin.
