Need to change power cord on maytag dryer from 3 prong to 4

Always disconnect electricity before beginning this process.

All the 4 wire cords I have seen are color-coded. The white wire goes to the middle terminal, the green wire goes to any screw you can reach that goes into the metal case of the dyer. The red and black go to the outside terminals of the block and while it doesn't matter which color goes to which terminal I usually follow the color code of the interior dryer wiring that already exists. Good Luck.

Wire 3 prong cord

Electric Dryer How To Hook Up Cord pixel_trans.gifFor Three Prong Cords
the Center cord wire goes on the center terminal,
the left on the left ,
and the right on the right.

Note: There should be a ground strap or wire that runs from the center terminal to the dryer case.

For Four Prong Cords
the White cord wire goes in the center,
the Red on the Right,
the Black on the Left.
The green cord wire goes to the case or the external ground screw.

Note: Be sure to disconnect the ground wire or strap that runs from the center terminal to the case. In this Photo (A Whirlpool Dryer) I have ran the wire that runs from the center terminal, the Light Green wire, back to itself rather than cutting it off, just incase I need to put a 3 prong cord back on it some day. The whole purpose of this 3 prong / 4 prong thing is it separates the neutral from the ground. pixel_trans.gif pixel_trans.gif3 Prong Cord Whirlpool Dryer Example terminalblock.jpg 4 Prong Cord Whirlpool Dryer Example 4prongcord_small.jpg

Trying to hook a 3 prong hook up with 4 prong cord how do i do it?

A 3 prong plug is for 240 volt (hot-hot-ground) the 4 prong plug is for 120/240 volt (hot-hot-neutral-ground). If your device requires a 4 prong plug, it is not a good idea to connect it to a 3 prong circuit (you will create a possible lethal electrical condition). If your device requires a 3 prong connection, a 4 prong cord can be used by not connecting the neutral (white wire). If you have any questions, let me know.

I need help hooking up my Maytag Dryer

here's a link you can try that explains both the 3 and 4 prong dryer cord configurations.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

If this is an older home that already has a 3-prong receptacle installed, you can still use a 3-prong cord. However, if this a newer home, or if you plan on relocating the appliance, or making any repairs to the existing receptacle, you need to use the 4-prong. I hope this helps you.

If you weren't talking about the dryer cord configuration and need assistance with something else, please let me know.
