Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies
This sounds like that the print spooler need to be started.
For Windows XP: click the "Start" button, choose and right click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage" (this will take you to the Computer Management window and look for the Services link on the left pane click on it and browse and double click for the Print Spooler on the right pane. The Print Spooler Properties window will open and change the "Startup Type" to automatic (if not choosen already). Browse down a bit and look what the "Service Status" is currently set to. If the "Service Status" is "Stopped" then, click on the "Start" button. If the "Serive Status" is "Started", then click on the "Stop" button, wait a bit, then click on the "Start" button. After, make sure you click on the "Apply" button first, then the "Ok" button. After, just x out the window and restart your computer. After, go ahead and install your HP printer again. This should fix your issue.
