Question about Samsung SYNC SGH-A707 Cellular Phone
Our phone got wet and seemed to recover except that it had a password on it and we can't get back in. I finally discovered that all of the numbers work except the 7 types a 1, 8 types a 2 and 9 types a 4 and that is probably why it won't accept the password. Any clues on what we can do from here?
You can try taking the phone apart and brushing it out with 91% rubbing alcohol. It sounds like the switch relay module has corrossion under it. You need a very tiny phillips screwdriver. There are a total of 6 screws in the back of the phone. 2 at the bottom, 2 under the batter cover, and 2 more at the top under some rubber bushings. Once the screws are removed, make sure if you have as SD memory card that it is out of the phone, the battery is out, and the SIM card is out. Carefully snap the back cover off of the phone. This will expose the MB. Once you have the MB exposed, unplug the main flex (top right, you'll see it) and the keypad flex (top left, under the board) and the antenna (bottom right). Be very careful because if you damage any of these, your phone will not work correctly. After unplugging all of these, the MB (mother board) should come out. Use a toothbrush and 91% rubbing alcohol to brush out any visible corrosion. Don't be afraid to get the phone good and wet with the alcohol.
Let the board dry fully, reassemble (carefully) and see what happens. If that doesn't take care of it, you'll need the phone professionally cleaned and possibly component replacement. If you end up needing this, i recommend www.wirelessunlimitedinc.com, or www.myspace.com/wirelessunlimited.
They are fast, efficient, affordable, and have most of what you would need in stock.
