Color trouble (by 2 users)

I have had the Umax Astra 3400 since 2000 and when I scan my images some of them come out pink and other times they come out green, what would cause that and how do I make it stop?

When i scan or preview i get the pink background and it is not clear.
how do i rectify this ?
