You can check the screen if it is defective by trying to use another screen or monitor. Try this and if the problem persists there is a problem with your video card. If not, the problem is in your monitor it might be that the fuse shorted or busted. Or it might be you that you forgot to adjust the screen brightness, or somebody did make a joke on you. If the problem still persists, my best advice is for you to have your computer checked by a qualified and competent technician for he has tools to determine the defect. Hope that your computer operates soon.

My laptop screen went black. Laptop won't turn

It powers on but there's no visible picture. Have you tried plugging in a VGA cable to an external monitor for picture? If you see a picture that means the lamp inside the screen went out on the LCD, which is cheaper than replacing the entire screen about 200 dollars cheaper.

MY GATEWAY LAPTOP SCREEN WENT BLACK AFTER 20 MIN OR MORE

I'm betting that you need a new "Inverter" board, especially if it's a Gateway 450ROG.
There is an inverter that Gateway used in several models that has a known defect.
Inverters are relatively inexpensive ,and easy to replace. You could ven do it yourself if you have a little skill at disassembly / re-assembly. Tell me the model number of your laptop and I can help you more
