Hi, might need your services in the future so i will save your site cheers . here is the fix which i found on a tascam forum ( press track edit and arrow up) this re instates factory settings . after i did that the (record) light and (play )light worked although there was no sound thru my h/phones when i recorded aaaagggghhhh switched off the unit fed up. the following day when i switched the unit back on every thing was ok .maybe it required to be shut down?? a bit like a pc, for all the corrections to be installed who knows it must be said that i am a technical buffoon i prefer hitting big rocks with big hammers ,this foray into high tech numbs my brain instantly and leaves me with a twitch .william

Turntable stylus not staying on record

Since there are no tonearm adjustments the only solution in the manual that comes close is to make sure the turntable is level. The other possibility is the no-brainer of checking the stylus cover is NOT rotated down, preventing the stylus from contacting the record.

A quick and dirty test of tonearm balance being too light would be to unplug the power and manually move the tonearm over the platter. Gently lower it to see if it floats in the air or lightly but firmly contacts the platter. That won't tell you if it is tracking properly but it might indicate or eliminate tracking force as the culprit.

Playing to the end of the record

I LOVED the 40bs, and if you look at the size selector, which is located at an angle to the right side at the front along with the manual or auto setting in the front. There are 4 settings, 78-10, 45-7, 33-12, and 33-7 for the speeds and sizes of the recordings.

Hi, I have a Tascam 144 when i plug my guitar through an amp into it, it only seems to record on one channel IE it only comes out of one speaker, I can get round this by taking a lead out of the sub out...

no worries, you need to set up the channel you are recording to as a mono channel. It is the two overlapping o symbols in the track setup. Hit that and you should be in business.

Headphone monitoring DP02

It was a bad phone jack adapter ... found another one, and it works fine. The DP02 ROCKS! I wish it had build in compression though - I am finding my vocals get too loud and too quiet at times. Maybe it does, I have to keep reading. So far, it does everything except the dishes :)

I started recording back in the 80s, and spent over $30K back then to get equipment that honestly doesn't do as much as this little machine. (I wasn't rich, I went bankrupt).

Hello i have a tascam 244 which is a four track tape recorder it is quite old i have sent it to tascam to have it fixed before but now it is not working, the metre lights come on for each track and the tape...

Since there is movement in the meters, the heads are good. Look first for any cables or connectors that are loose. There is an "output" section in these that can fail. I don't recall whether this section is an IC or discrete components though. Check the cables and connectors and update this with what you find. I'll look up this model and find the output parts.

Tascam 238 tape deck

Common problem with these decks-the capstan motor needs to be replaced- A DIY job if you are careful and have some mechanical common sense- Tascam still sells these motors, around $100
