Use the cd that came with the Router. Run the cd like you did when you first got it. You should come to a point where it recommends a WPA security. Click it. Then you just have to create a password. Complete the rest of the setup. Then you will have to go to any device connected through the router and put in the password. That should keep your neighbor from leeching off you.

Here's how you can put a password for your Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router

1. Open your browser (IE, Firefox, or Chrome)
2. Type 192.168.1.1
3. Type these credentials
•un: admin
•pw: admin
4. On the Linksys Homepage, click on the "Wireless" Tab on top.
5. Click on "Basic Wireless Settings" just underneath the "Wireless" Tab
6. Rename your Network Name (SSID) to your desired name.
6.1. Click Save Settings
7. Click on "Wireless Security" (on top, beside "basic wireless settings")
8. Change your security mode from "disabled" to "WEP2 Personal"
(sub options should appear after)
9. On the Pre-Shared Key box, type in the password that you want to create for your wireless network.
(make sure you write this down and keep a copy in case you forget your password)
10. Click Save Settings.

Your done. No more free internet for your neighbors.

Hope this helps.

Cant find wep code

This code is listed under wireless security settings in the Router set up. I suggest that you set this code to something that you can remember...here are the highlights of what needs to be set:

Wireless Router settings:

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, which you can get from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below:

To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your Internet Browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit. Look under support, downloads, drivers or similar sounding areas.

Things to set:

(Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes. SAVE OFTEN.)

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is typically NOT the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID (descriptive name is easier to find when you need to connect wirelessly).

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits.

Hi I let my neighbor use my wirless internet now I think they saved the password and are using it at their free will i my computer recently broke and I lost the driver what can I do to change my wireless...

You are able to access your wireless router from a mobile device (at least, I was from my Android smartphone). Enter in the ip of your router (if you are unsure, look up the default IP for your router model on google) and enter in your username and password (again, you can also find the defaults of these if you are unsure). Once you gain access to the router, you are able to then change the password. I would recommend doing this as then your neighbors will no longer be able to connect.

I need to put a pass code on my router so neighbors are not using my internet can you help me

This isn't too hard if you take it one step at a time. .
  1. First, get your user guide or download it from here.
  2. Log on to your router per the instructions on page 14 with "Contacting your Router"
  3. Skip to page 16 and perform step 1
  4. Click on SECURITY and skip to page 19.
  5. To keep this easy, choose WEP, Key 1, and generate the key.
  6. WRITE DOWN KEY #1 as you will need this when you connect your PC. Click APPLY.
. Your router is now secure. When you try to connect your wireless PC it shoud now bring up the security screen. Change the security scheme to WEP, key #1 and type in the code from step 6. . Good luck!

I need to secure my password on my router so our neighbors can't use our wireless internet

If your router isn't secure get one that is.Some routers are not secure. They rely on the user to secure the router's security codes. All routers come with a disc if it didn't it's a mickey mouse router.Install the disc again if you didn't do it before.Your PC should recognise it.Some operating systems don't recognise the router.Go to hardware in the control panel Where it says install a device click on it.Windows will check to see if a driver is available for your router.Go to the manufacturers website and download the driver for your particular router.IT will come up with boxes and you put in the model and serial number and it will search it's database for your driver.Good Luck.
