Question about HP Photosmart D5160 InkJet Printer
Don't unscrew anything, a light knock on top of the control panel with a finger resolves the problem everytime for me after closing the cover

Had the same problem and found it was due to a failure of the plastic lever inside the printer that generates the cover open signal. Give away is that the left hand side of the top cover is slightly higher than the right.
Solution depends whether you are in warranty or want to fork out for a service repair. If not, the way I found to solve this was to take off the control panel (there's one screw on the top that you need a 2.5mm Allan Key to take off, then the panel can be prised off carefully). This reveals a grey plastic vertical activator on the left inside of the printer case which needs to be knobbled so that it's in the up position. Once you've put everything back together, you'll not get an indication when the top cover is open, but at least the printer will print.

Yup, that suggestion also works fine for me. Don't start unscrewing stuff until you've tried it.

Open the cover, disconnect an ink tank and reconnect it, close the cover firmly. works every time
