I have a whirlpool ultimate care II washer and it washes to the point of load size small, it will not follow to the rinse cycle. I have a washer fill of water and clothes. Really not sure where to start ont his.
I don't know if it will work for everyone. But I took my back off of my contol. You know the knob that goes around. There are two little srews in the back, up top but there are also two hidden screws that are down inside the edge. I found that I had a control unplug inside. I also bent my stopper that goes down in where the lid hit the controll to make it spend. It know works like a brand new one. Good Luck
Check the door safety switch when you lower the lid. There is two screws on the right side of washer tub opening. They screw into the switch housing which is made of plastic. On my machine the housing cracked and the tab on the door could not push the switch all the way down.

sounds like a lid switch problem. is there a clicking noise when you open and close the lid?
if not then the lid switch may need to be replaced; inexpensive.
this could also be caused by a bad timer.
also try a different speed for the rinse cycle, it may be a bad motor and it is not going into a certain speed. instead of gentle or slow speed try fast or normal, something like that.

Mine does the same thing. Just stops with a washer full of water at the end of the 6 min wash. Also stops on the rinse/spin cycle sometimes. Could it be the timer?
