This is definitely a problem with the audio/video processing circuits. The easiest way to fix this would be to replace the main A/V board. Costs about 100$. I can find you a replacement if you wish to fix it yourself.

My Vizio TV has a bar of colored lines running veritcally over the picture. Should I replace the T-Con board?

What causes vertical colored lines on a TV screen? When a TV is showing vertical colored lines, a loose wire cable in the TV might be the cause. If you knock on the back of the TV, the vertical colored lines MAY disappear temporarily. This is a sign that a cable is loose or the T-Con board is faulty.

Horizontal color line across the screen

Most likely a bad Vertical IC or bad connections on the vertical IC. don't continue trying it on. If you have a bad connection it could do more damage. You also could damage the CRT ( picture tube ). If you remove the cover and look at the bottom side of the PC bord with a good magnifiing glass you may see what looks like rings around the leads comming from the Vertical IC. The Vertical IC is mounted on a heat sink usually towards the front of the set looking from back. If you do see the rings around the leads try reheating with a solder iron. If this dosen't fix you most likely need a new IC.

No picture, only a horizontal line across the screen

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem indicates failure at the vertical deflection circuitry. Almost always, this would be a defective vertical IC. In some instances, this could also be caused by the absence of Vcc (supply voltage) to the said IC. This is a relatively easy/quick repair. What would be more challenging is identifying the IC, removing it, and replacing. Replacement would be readily available from most electronics part stores including Radio Shack.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Television has no picture

That TV uses the PTK195 chassis, and the fact that you see only a thin line for each color near the bottom of the screen tells me your vertical output IC has stopped working, and is putting a small DC voltage across the yokes. I have seen this caused by a defective vertical output IC and I have also seen vertical problems caused by a small CRT coolant leak which drips onto the main board near the vertical output IC. If you do not have experience servicing the PTK195 chassis than have a qualified tech handle it for you.

POP and noothiing

yes it can still be fixed! the pop sound you've heard maybe came from a blown capacitor in the vertical deflection circuits. this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
