You can not save stuff directly to your CD Rom unless you have the software and a writable disk. I recommend you use Nero www.nero.com and a re-writable cd to try it first.

Cdroms are read only (cd-rom stands for compact disc read only memory). To save to cd, you would need a cd burner and a writeable cd.

There are multiple instances when you would want to wipe your PC's memory clean and reset it to the factory defaults.

Called "formatting," it is often the last-ditch effort to restore a PC to functionality.

You will also have to format your PC if it gets crippled by viruses.

Although these instructions are for the Compaq Presario, the steps are essentially the same for all Windows based PCs. Be sure that you want to delete everything this process is irreversible.

Back up any data that you want to keep by saving it to removable media, such as external hard drives, flash drives, DVD-R, etc.

Unplug all peripheral devices, except for the keyboard and mouse.

Turn on the computer. As the computer is starting, repeatedly press F1 to initiate the recovery process.

When the BIOS setup screen appears, press the right arrow key to select "Boot".

Press the down arrow key to select "Boot Device Priority" and press "Enter".

Press the down arrow key to select "CD-ROM" and press "+" to move it to the top of the list.

Open the CD-ROM tray, and insert the system recovery disk.

Exit the BIOS setup by pressing "F10". Be sure to select "Save Changes and Exit".

System recovery should initiate. If it does not, and the PC loads Windows, then you have either failed to set the CD-ROM at the top of the boot priority list or you exited the BIOS setup without saving.

Press "R" to begin the recovery process.

When prompted, select "Full System Recovery".

Restart the computer when the process has completed.

Hope this helps.

When I attempt to turn on my Dell 2300 computet, I get a message saying that NO BOOT DRIVE DETECTED AND MUST PUT IN WINDOWS DISC AND HIT F1 TO REPROGRAM COMPUTER. I have already reprogrammed the computer,...

Sounds like the boot order in the bios is wrong, go into the bios, change and SAVE it, dont just exit without saving.
If you still get problems, get a new cmos battery,
I always have cd/dvd rom as 1st boot then Hard drive, and disable other boot devices

Emachine T5212 will not boot up unless operating system disc in used. Get direction to enter boot disc.

Restart, press DEL to enter BIOS and change the boot priority/sequence to boot from your HDD, second choice will be from CD-ROM and last from floppy. Next after saving the changes allow it to boot normally....sodeep.

I forgot my administrator password

Are you talking about the administrator password in windows? If so it doesn't have to do anything with bios and you have reset the motherboard to factory settings.

To be able to install window xp or vista you will need to set the settings in bios to boot from CD,A,C in that sort of order so that the cd rom will boot. Place in the CD into your primary cd rom/dvd rom and exit saving changes to bios. When the computer goes to start up it will ask you to press any key to continue into installing windows. Follow all the prompts and you can select to install a new version without saving anything.

See how you go, I will be on live Chat on saturday GMT 10.00 time 8p,m onwards.

Compaq Presario 5360 Cd rom is Full

A CD-ROM drive is a read-only drive. It will always says there is 0 usable space, since you cannot write to it. You need to have a CD-Writer in order to add content to either a CD-R or CD-RW disc. You would get the "not accessible" error message if there is no media in the drive. If you place a disc in the drive, that message should go away.
