If you mean CD/DVD/ ROM drive then you will need a paper clip. Straighten out the paper clip and push it into the hole on the front of the drive (a little pressure is involved). This will eject the tray. This is usually occurs because the gearing is getting stuck. This usually doesn't get better, only worse over time.

I have a eMachine t5246. My hard drive went bad, very bad, couldn't get it to even get wiped out so. my eMachine disc won't start up. It is the operating disc but every time it says install and...

If the hard drive failed you will first need to replace it with a working hard drive. One that is done, power on the computer with the recovery disc is the drive and enter setup. It should say something like press F9 or F10 for Setup. Look through the menus for "Boot Order", make sure your CD/DVD drive is above hard drive. Save the changes and reboot, you should get a message "Press any key to boot to disc" or something similar, do so, and follow the prompts to re-install windows.

I don't understand this term: "choose either dvd or usb menu". Do you mean instead ""choose either dvd or cd menu? I've used many usb hard drives and I've never seen such a "menu".

My dell inspiron 545S won't load. gives me error #25

It' most likely that your hard disk drive is defective. Try to boot from a CD\DVD disc, if it does, you have a problem with your hard drive.

Can i format my HD on an external bases with my laptop, then install it back into my pc. my hard drive crashed and i need to get it to boot. i dont have the boot disk

Technically, YES, the hard drive can be formatted as an external (with the appropriate equipment) on your laptop (if there are still files on it, you may even be able to extract them from it) but it still won't be bootable because it does not have an operating system on it.

That would be the part where you need the recovery disc. Windows setup programs from these boot discs already have the format utility so if there aren't any files to extract from the drive, you can skip to reinstalling Windows on the desktop and formatting it in the process.

Bottom line is that you need a Windows installation disc to make the hard drive bootable again, regardless of where you format it.

Hi, I've just purchased two identical lacie rugged XL 1TB drives which have been delivered by courier to the remote location where I work in Namibia. Problem is the one drive plugs in and appears on...

Try swapping usb cables if possible. You can also try swapping enclosures but this will void your warranty.

See if it shows up in Windows Disk Management if so then you may have just lost the partition you can try to recover lost partitions with Testdisk its free http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

It may be your best bet is to contact Lacie support. http://www.lacie.com/support/support_manifest.htm?id=10177

I bought a new hardrive for my m2000 and when i load it it is giving me a "media test failure" response..... how do i load it properly?

If you bought a new hard drive (meaning the internal hard disk), it won't have anything on it. If you just install it and try booting your computer, there won't be an operating system to load. The BIOS (the operating system built into the motherboard) is set up to try loading the operating from connected devices in a certain order. Usually it tries the optical drive first, then the hard drive, and finally it tries to boot over a network connection. The media test failure message means it tried that last resort and still didn't find an operating system, and it's telling you that maybe you have a bad network cable.

You'll need to reinstall your operating system and applications so that the computer will start normally. If your computer came with a restore disc set, or you made a set yourself, you'd use those. If you don't have restore discs, you can do a fresh installation of Windows from CD. You need to find the disc for the version that came installed on your computer, since you'll need to use the product key from the sticker on the bottom. Drivers and utility programs you can download from Compaq's (HP, actually) support and drivers website.

Once you've got a bootable Windows system on the new drive, you won't get that strange message any more.
