Ice Build up and leakage of water

Hi there, thanks for your advise on how to hopefully rectify my problem. The problem I have now is how do I get the panel at the back inside the freezer off. It appears to need an allen key, but the holes are a star shape. Sorry to be a pest but I am on my own and so need idiot proof instructions!!

What is the model number? Also, you can buy a set of "star" screw drivers at your local hardware store "autozone" for under 10 bucks. And, intructions for fixing your problem can be seen at:

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

Often ice maker issues are a symptom of an automatic defrosting problem OR a leaking (dripping / bypassing) ice maker water valve.

First off you should try and prove that there are no un-necessary water leakages by doing the following:

1. Turn the icemaker OFF
2. Remove the plastic line where it connects to the thru the cabinet water tube by pinching the clamp and pulling down on the plastic tube.
3. Place end of the plastic tube into a bucket for about 12 hours. At the end of 12 hours check the bucket for ANY water. If there is a noticable amount of water (more than 1 oz) the water valve is leaking water by the valve diaphram seat. The only remedy for this is to change the units water valve assy.

As far as a possible automatic defrosting problem..... soft ice cream is a symptom along with that of low ice production.

The evaporator coils get a substantial amount of ice build up on them and then the airflow in the freezer compartment is restricted resulting in a change in the freezer comprtment temp. If you do have an automatic defrosting problem you will soon notice noise from the evaporator fan as the ice build up encroaches into the fan blade path. Additionally the fresh food compartment will warm up.

The ice maker will not cycle until it reaches 16 to 15 deg F. The ice maker harvest cycle is started when the ice maker thermostat closes and advances the ice maker module.

Do the water in the bucket test and then look for signs of ice build up on the evaporator coils.

If neither of the above manifest / present then download this manual and follow the troubleshooting procedures:

Leaking water in front left side

hi tom
yes the drain tube may be glogged and when the unit defrosts the water just flows to the bottom of the un it then eventally out, if you have a clogged drain, you will see water on a pretty reglar basis
8, 10, 12 hours
the drain pipe is behind the back wall on the freezer, if you take that off you will se an ice build up, remove that ice and clear the drain tube
you may need to pull out the machine and remove the tube from the back to ensure that it is entirley clear

Icemaker problem with Samsung RB215BssB refrigerator

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it can freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Ice build up on freezer floor.

Hi, If ice is building in the freezer, you have a defrost drain hole plugged. Unplug the Fridge and then remove the rear panel off the freezer. There you will find ice built up in rain. Remove the ice (hair dryer works best). Once the ice is gone, you need to make sure the drain hole is open all the way. A baisting serringe with hot water works really well.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further. Please rate my answer so I know how I am doing.

Thanks
Vic
