Just set up my brand new Wii and can't get any games to load. All give the can't read disc error. What is the deal? Everything else works fine just can't play games. I did all the trouble shooting steps (unplugging etc. and it still doesn't work. What a dissapointment.

Worked fine when we first got it. Put it away for a couple of weeks while we traveled. Got it out for the grandchildren when they visited -- did not work. Unable to load Wii Sports at all, variously got "error occurred - eject disk" message and "unable to load" message. Tired Wii Play -- got "unable to load" message 5 out of 6 times, was able to load it twice. This tells me the problem is in the console, not the disks, which appear to be in perfect condition.

As long as it is less than a year old and has not been modified in any way you can call Nintendo 1-800-255-3700 and they will take care of you. Good Luck

When disk is installed the Wii Menu comes up but the disk is spinning and does not show the name of the disk in console.

What kind of disk is it? If it's a game then the disk might be damaged, meaning you'd have to get a new one.

It could also mean the disk drive in your Wii is broken. If other game disks work it should be fine, though.

If it's a DVD or a music CD, it's the same story - the disk must be damaged, or it's possible it's a format the Wii can't read, in which case there's nothing you can do.

If it's a disk you burned yourself, your Wii probably refuses to read it. Nintendo has restrictions on what kind of disks the Wii will read to prevent piracy.

It sounds like you purchased a defective game disk. Return it to the place you purchased it for an exchange.

First check your cable connection.
Eject the disk, if you have inside.
Unplug the console at the back
Wait 10 minutes
Plug it back in
Turn it on from the remote
Press reset if it does not show up
Hold the power button to shut it off
Turn it on once more.

Some games wont play ie wii play, wii sports, sonic & mario at olympics, yet three other games play no problem none of the disc are scratched or dammaged in any way they show up in the wii menu but when...

I had the same problem. I called wii support (1800-255-3700) and they gave me the solution. Some new games include a wii update that must be installed before the game will work. Insert the disk. When the wii menu comes up point the wii remote at the spinning disc and click A. Follow the instructions for installing the update. Your game will work once the update completes.

Not Loading Disc

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
