Question about Watches

My Miele Vacuum Cleaner S 548 cut off while I was vacuuming with the crevice nozzle. The bag was not full, but I put in a new one. The filters look O.K. I waited 1 hour, but the vacuum will not turn on.

I have a tommy hilfiger bag.. The lock code was 000 but somehow it is not opening. Can you please suggest a way to open the bag as it is really urgent

Uhhhhh yeah! If the bag only has a 3-digit lock code, that means there are only 1000 possible combinations for the lock. In the time it takes you to wait for an answer to this question that won't be coming, you could probably have tried more than half of them. If, after exhausting all possibilities, the lock STILL won't open, THEN you have a real issue, since the only way to get in the bag will be to break the lock or cut into the bag. Thank you Captain Obvious.

The battery needs replacing on my JL U44 Champ League watch.Three jewellers cannot remove the back plate saying its vacuum sealed. Any ideas how I can get the battery replaced please?

Some watch backs are very difficult to remove without scratching or damaging the case. The three jewelers consulted do not want to chance damaging the case so they invented the vacuum sealed excuse to pass on it.

How do i change the battery in a Gucci 2400 L watch?

Hello Jeneane Blacine,

Beautiful watch...

A picture of the BACK-SIDE would allow me a better GUESS.

I am purely an amateur horologist (all personal opinions)...
Like... a 5x jewelers loupe works fine for battery changing.

I did look for your battery number.. but found no references.

The American Watch Institute (AWI) produces a book that lists every battery and cross references GLOBAL numbers from the VARIOUS manufactures...

Once I open a watch...
I always write down THAT WATCH and Battery NUMBER and keep it with that pamphlet
(about $5 in 1998 - 2000 edition).

I start with an soft bristle brush (tooth brush works fine) & carefully go all over the watch cleaning every crack, joint & crevice... followed by a soft clean cloth to polish the case. Once I am confident nothing will be introduced into the watch... I open the case (table top, good light. jewelers loupe, case cracker , jaxa (style) wrench or jewelers screw-drivers... really nice forceps above a clean floor... (a screw WILL GET AWAY ...a flash light across the surface of the floor... will cast a decent shadow... or (my mother advised me to use of a lady's stocking over the vacuum nozzle also worked (she was a very smart lady)).

Some watches have press in backs... some secure with screws... a lot of round body watches actually have screw in covers...

They are all different (certainly delicate).

After taking a couple of our watches to the PROFESSIONALS
only to see the gouge & scratch the cases... I figured I would scratch much less (& free)... As the decades have passed ... I can get in & out.. just fine.

Acceptable quality tools are available on-line... and a little patience
will make your cases last longer... As for their water "resistance"...
THAT'S A WHOLE other article... Suffice it to say... I do a better jo than the battery guy at the strip mall ...

Better tools produce better work... but it is the skilled touch of a caring hand that guarantees the best results... No mater who they are... everybody needs to start at the beginning.

Good luck...

I have a square Anne Klein watch that needs a new battery. Usually there is an arrow on the back of watch but but there is not one. Please advise. Thank you

If it is a press on style back, you usually can take a small screwdriver, flat tool, and insert in the crevice to pop off the back. Can be risky, yes. if unsure, better off to take to a qualified watch service place. Usually under $15 for battery and installing.

Carbuetor promlems

Before removing carb a suggestion to check first, make sure distributor is supplying power to spark plugs and do inspect inside cap for moisture if there is no "fire"then that needs to be repared,"several things can cause this or if moisture is found clean distributor interior thouroghly and replace cap or it will happen again.if this is not answer try removing air filter for as long as possible along with plugs and let excess fuel evaporate before cranking anymore and add good fuel cleaner to fresh fuel and try again, old fuel can have condensation and not ignite. If you still find no change the problem may very well be carb and depending on how hard finding gaskets or replacement parts for it someone with experience may be needed for repair because carbs are difficult to do right without some knowledge.

Refilling a dunhill lighter

All rechargeable lighters have a refilling nozzle (usually at the bottom of lighter).
All the good quality gas refill cans have the nozzle adapters inside sovering cup.
Brake off the nozzle adapters off the cup and try to fit them onto lighters refilling nozzle.
When found the best fit adapter, put it onto gas refill cans nozzle and holding the lighter and can upside down connect all nozzles together and push together.
As these nozzles are made for mass production lighters, tey do not fit perfect and some gas leak will occure.
Anyway- few seconds will be enough to refill any lighter.
In case if your lighter do not refill by explained action, the refill nozzle in your lighter is damaged or faulty.
Hope it does help.

Submariner water under crystal

You definetely have to ask for watchmakers help to dry out your watch properly. Moisture may not be visible to your eye, but it's still in the watch case and ruins your watch movement permanently and quite quick.
Sooner or later your watch will stop or show some other faults, but by that time the price for repair can be sky-high.
I've been replacing whole movements, just because the owners thought it's not a big deal or didn't want to pay for such a job. It just sounds 'drying out', but actually it's not, as watch must be disassembled completely (incl. movement), cleaned, oiled and properly re-adjusted.
Rolex repairs has never been cheap, but better do it as soon as possible.

Moisture in watch

try this: remove the stem (I assume you got the stem back on). borrow a strong shop vacuum and literally suck the moisture out the hole using your hand or duct tape tightly wrapped to funnel the vacuum from the tiny hole.
