Removal of antivirus xp 2008 virus

I downloaded the spyware removal software you suggested. Cked, but could not find the two files listed.( I assume they are gone) Could not find the C windows, or C program files, either. But the spyware program is still there, messing up my computer. Tried to find Gpedit, error message says the file isn't there. So I cannot get to user configuration, etc. Now what?

My next suggestion would be to use the system restore feature... go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.
Follow the prompts to roll your system back to a date BEFORE you started getting this error and the issues began. If you are pretty sure when it began, go a few days before then, if not make a best guess, and go 2-3 weeks before that.
You will not lose any files you created, or any programs you installed, but it will clear any programs and viruses that were installed without user interaction.
Let me know if this takes care of your problem... Thanks!

Please remove Antivirus 2009 As I have McAfee security thru Comcast for free !

Antivirus 2009 is a virus and the fastest way to remove it would be to format the system over. However, if your lucky enough to have it in your ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS list, then remove it before it really gets messy. I just finished trying to clean this one and ended up reformatting the system. Now, if you need to do that, and your a bit technically incline, backup your profile located under C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\%accountname%
de3bf73.jpg
In the pictured example, OWNER is the primary account. Copy this to an external as this holds all your settings and documents and pictures provided you saved everything as a default to MY DOCUMENTS.

McAfee can't remove this virus.

add RAM, Defragment your Hard drive and make sure you are using a stable OS (i wouldn't recommend Vista).

Trend Micro Antivirus/Vista Antivirus 2008

Hello there.

Unfortunately you have been infected, by the software called "Vista Antivirus 2008". What this software does is infect you, then prompt you to pay to remove the infection that it installed. So it is a scam.

What i would recommend is use the uninstall instructions from here http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/xp-antivirus-2008-removal-instructions-xp-antivirus-2008/spyware-removal

This will remove the infection (and others) from your system.

Once you have completed the steps, be sure to try an online scanner such as housecall here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
This will not conflict with your already-installed Trend Micro software, it mearly runs through your web browser.

On that note, Internet Explorer is not very safe for browsing the Internet with, i would recommend either Firefox or Opera for a safer/better browsing experience.

Hope this helps.

2008 xp antivirus

Have you tried AVG? It is a free anti-virus software.

By the sounds of it "2008 xp antivirus" is a virus. The people who make these viruses often choose names to trick users into downloading their viruses.

Ads keep popping up when am online and offline, I have warning tabs saying that I have been infected with spyware. I am on verizon fios network and have virus scan and spyware removal tools that I used,...

Hello there.

Virus and spyware problems are very popular unfortunately, most tools are unable to find and repair all problems, so its best to try alternative methods to remove the most stubbern infections.

I suggest using an online scanner, something like http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall . Open this address and click "Launch Housecall free scan". This will download the files needed through your web browser and run a scan without actually installing the antivirus package in windows. It wont interfere with existing antivirus / antispyware software.

If you cannot remove all infections, then please show us a screenshot or a list of the infections from the scan end page and we will assist.

Hope this helps.
