7 - kernel - HDD timeout

Most of the times, the IDE cable is not properly connected when you see this error. Please reattach the ide cable. Not only to the harddisk drive but also to the dvd drive. ALso try to reconnect the ide cable to the motherboard.

Press pretty hard so it goes all the way in. Make sure it is seated straight and proper in the drives and the motherboard. If you still have an error 7. Try another ide cable. If that won't work try another harddisk. If there is still no go, try to set the jumpers on the rearside of the harddisk drive. Set it to master or cable select.
If that doesn't work, it probably means your hard drive is shot. There are ways to replace it, you can learn how to do it here:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php
or here:
http://llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Reading_Xbox_Hdd_key.htm

It will involve opening your Xbox, building a small device out of about $5 in parts from Radio Shack, using that device to read your eeprom.bin file, and then finally using a program called XboxHDM to create a new hard drive (a WD Caviar works well).
But you can find a used Xbox for around $50, if all that seems like too much trouble.

I dont wont to say this but you might have to erase the settings on it

to erase the settings

  1. If there is a disc in the console, remove it.
  2. Turn off the console.
  3. Turn on the console by using your controller. To do this, press and hold the controller's Xbox Guide button until your console turns on.

    Collapse this imageExpand this imagecontlrftbtn.jpg

Note If multiple controllers are connected to your console, make sure that you use the player one controller. You can recognize the player one controller because the upper-left quadrant of the Guide button is lit up on that controller.

    Collapse this imageExpand this imagecontlrlightquad1.jpg

  4. While the console is starting, press and hold the Y button and pull the right trigger at the same time. Continue holding the buttons when you see the Xbox 360 logo.

    Collapse this imageExpand this imageyandtriggercontroller.jpg

The console will restart and you will see the Xbox 360 logo again.

The console's display settings are now reset to the defaults.

My xbox 360 wont show a picture but it has sound

This is how to fix it. So here is how you do it. First i took off my hard drive on the 360. Then i pluged it to the tv not with HDTV (use the red, yellow and white make sure it is on tv not HDTV) i only say this because i didn't use the HDTV setting to fix it. then i pluged it into the wall with the 360 laying down not up and down and turned it on. (no picture but sound) with the 360 on i took 1 towel folded it long ways and wraped it around my 360 from back to front (make sure you cover the fans in the back to make it over heat.) leave your 360 on until it red rings (you can hear the 360 quit down. it takes about 15-30 mins depending on how fast it over heats. once this happens unwrap the 360 and turn it off wait 5 secs and power it back on and there you go you should have picture and sound again. i hope this will help u....pls rate...cheers...

We had new cable company installed and we had to use a router. We cannot get on xbox live

go onto the connection page on your xbox and then do find connection or anything related to testing connection. once you find it, whatever you named you router on your computer will show up there. once connected, do a connection test and look for any updates. update them and then turn of you xbox. turn it back on. REMEMBER...only games that say Xbox live on the top of the box will work. then start playing
