I have a Ford AU Fairmont fitted with a Ford Radio/6 CD disc player.The radio works well but the disc player will not load or unload and there is no indication as to what discs are loaded.This action took place whilst the CD player was changing a disc.

Removing the cd you might have busted the load arm or spring that is why it would not eject, best to get replacement from junk yard, the usually give you thirty day warranty

The radio SERIALNUMBER is required for a code Sometimes pressing buttons 6 & 1 together or 6 & 2will display your Serial Number
Otherwise remove the radio from the dashboard and post the SERIAL NUMBER foundon a label on the casing

The CD load/unload mechanism appears to be malfunctioning.You have to take the radio out and see if you can manually remove the disc or pick up a used radio from the scrap yard

I had this problem...ignored it for a year then decided to have it fixed. No-one could fix it where I lived so before I went out and bought a replacement, I removed the top panel on the player (the one over the cd stacker) and had a look myself. There were 2 round discs loose in the player that I guessed were supposed to be attached to the 'arm' that takes the cd and spins it to make it play. I put them back on the 'pin' on the arm - the white disc first then the silver and black one on top and its playing again. I dont know how long for...it does tend to skip sometimes though. Better than nothing at all - and at least now I have a radio too. I'm just a girl who guessed were the parts went however....but maybe the parts inside have atendency to get loose and fall off? sounds like time for a new radio. all the components that are involved in your problem are in the radio and non-serviceable.

I had the same problem and i brought a new ford oem cd player 2 times and my mechanic says its an electrical problem with some fords not the Cd player or the radio. So your cd player may not be junk, it may be electrical or wiring problem.

You need some special tools which slot in to the holes at the sides of the stereo, they release some clips and the unit slides out. Then you can take the cover off the unit and remove the jammed CD. These units are notorious for failure, especially the six disc stackers, and are probably not worth repairing, can be more expensive to repair than fitting a decent aftermarket cd player. Most audio installers or your local Ford dealer will have the tools to remove the unit, and if you just want the radio, you could remove the jammed cd and refit the stereo and just not use the cd player. You'll need to get the radio code from a Ford dealer to get the stereo going again if you disconnect and reconnect it. They may need the serial number off the unit to give that to you, and you may need to prove ownership of the vehicle.
