Afternoon. I have a GE Gas Stove and Oven, Model JGBP29GES3W. The unit was made in 1994. Problem:
The oven was heating up and then stopped heating. The stove burners still function properly. Pursuant to the diagnosis of Daniel S. of FixYa, I replaced the thermostat. This did not correct the problem. Any other suggestions?

The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve. If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. The bake ignitor has failed.Turn off the gas supply. Remove the racks. Then remove the bottom pan cover in the oven to access the ignitor. Place a amp meter on one wire of the ignitor.Turn the BAKE switch on. If it reads less than 3 amps,replace the ignitor.
Possibly the bake igniter, the temperature sensor or the electronic oven clock/control. Does broil mode heat properly or does it run cool also? If broil heats to the proper temperature then the temperature sensor is probably ok. That leaves the ignitor or the controller which takes some more troubleshooting. Hi, It very well could be the ignitor. Sometimes they work at first and then will not open the gas valve later in cycle. You can set the oven to heat and watch the ignitor. If it glows and the gas will not ignite in 30 to 45 seconds, the igniter is getting weak. I jope this helps.

could be the oven thermostat, get a plumber/heating engineer out, but make sure you can trust him, cause he could try and say u need a new cooker when it MIGHT only be a new oven thermostat.
