Re: internet security such as norton
Norton is not one that is favored by most but you will find proponents and detractors of most all of the AV programs.
I have been using AVG (www.grisoft.com) pretty much since its inception but the 'free' version is dying out although my version 7.5 is still functioning well for us and has kept us free from bugs since installed.
It notifies us weekly to update and has now stopped nagging about upgrading to version 8.0 which is a paid version.
I would advise downlooading MS Defender which is free and gives another layer of protection and check your browser to see if the "restricted sites" list is already present and installed. It will block your entry to dangerous websites that can grab your browser or download harmful software.
As far as picking another AV program, take a look a reviews before paying for more protection than you need:

Hi, AVG is more than sufficient for a home computer. Norton takes quite a lot of system resources and slows computers down dramatically. AVG on the other hand uses 2/3rds less resources than Norton and is just as good.
1. Yes, uninstall before installing any other antivirus program or security suite. Your computer (and you) will be happier. 2. Once you uninstall the trial version of Norton, go ahead and download One Care. I've heard some good things about it, but haven't used it personally or seen it installed on a client's computer. 3. Symantec/Norton has made improvements to their software uninstalls. If you have a newer version of Norton installed, it should cleanly uninstall from the Add/Remove programs area. If it's older, you may have issues getting it to uninstall - leaving remnants as you mentioned. Symantec has help removing their software completely on their support site if you need help.
