Hi - that drive comes configured as a master. Unless your running a somewhat older system there is no need to do anything. If it is an "older" system you may have to set the transfer rate to 1.5G/sec. That's about all you can do with the jumpers. If you have two SATA drives just connect them to two controllers and your system will treat each drive as drive 0. I'm including a diagram of the jumpers.

When more than one hard drive is installed on a computer system, each drive competes for control of the computer. To allow both drives to work in harmony on the same computer system, the controlling (or startup) drive is designated the master drive and the other drive is designated the slave drive. You can change this designation. The following procedure applies to any PC-compatible computer.
Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Challenging Things You’ll Need:

Step 1 Decide which hard drive will be the startup (master) drive. If this drive was the startup drive previously, or if it's a new hard drive, then the master drive designation will already be set. Step 2To change the designation of a new drive to be a slave drive, skip to step 4. Step 3To change the designation of an existing drive to be a slave drive: Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord, remove the drive from its drive bay, and disconnect the drive from its power cord and ribbon cable. Step 4 Check the hard drive documentation or the label on the drive itself for master/slave jumper settings. Step 5Find the jumpers on the circuit board of the drive. Jumpers are plastic plugs with metal sleeves that form a circuit between a pair of pins. Jumper locations are labeled on the board with a J followed by a number (such as J20). Step 6Use tweezers or very small pliers to remove or reposition the jumpers to the configuration shown in the documentation or on the disk label. Step 7Install (or reinstall) the hard drive in the computer. (See "How to Install a Second Hard Drive.") how do i configure my - build_pc_xp2000_maxtor_40gb_jumper_matchup.jpg Set to label on your hard drive. Different on every drive.

Unable to make SATA dive as primary master .

Remove the IDE hard drive, and connect the SATA drive to SATA0 (zero) port. Install the OS on SATA drive. You may have to check BIOS. F2 on boot should get you there.

How to set PhenixBIOS set up for harddrive ?

If you have a hard drive in the system, then set the Primary Master to Auto and let the system configure it automatically. Leave Remote Power On set toe Disabled. You don't have to do anything to most of the settings.

How change prymari device?

You can either look into this online manual or follow the instructions given below.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4700/en/om/Y69490LRs.pdf

In the case of loading a particular Operating System(OS) from a specific Hard Disk, you can change the boot priority from BIOS (Hope you know to get into BIOS) as shown in the picture
1_7_2012_2_50_00_pm.png

Or if you want to change the physical configuration of your Hard Disks to Master and Slave, then follow these steps.
  1. Open up the side panel of your PC Case.
  2. Disconnect all the wires from both Hard disks.
  3. Look over the labelled top part of each hard disk to know the settings of JUMPER PIN so as to set it as primary(master) or secondary(slave). Please note that if you are using IDE hard disk, this may be enough. But in the case of SATA, inspite of this, you may also require to install RAID Driver after connecting them back into the computer. These drivers can be downloaded from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection (You may require to set up your product manually and download Serial ATA drivers)
  4. (Connect them back, Screw up- if you haven't done it already). Now you may be able to use the required hard disks as primary(master) and secondary(slave).
You can also watch two videos of changing jumper of the hard disk. But be careful while replacing jumper. Any incorrect configuration or jumper setting or damage of pin may cause in device failure or result in damage of your hard disks. If you have any further doubts, feel free to ask me...

You should remove your new hard drive out from your computer. Check your dvd drive jumper configuration. Make sure that if you use it as secondary drive for your primary drive like hard disk or etc., the jumper configuration is set to slave. And if you use the drive as a primary master, make sure that the jumper settings is set to master. Dont join both primary drive into one data cable, it will cause a drive error or one of them will not work. After that, install back your dvd drive into your computer.

2 primary ides 2 secondary ides

Ok.... The Primary IDE Should be configured so that your Primary Hard Drive is Set To Master (the jumper pins must be set to the same, each drive has a guide on top or back, or it's written above or below the jumper pins on the back of the drive.

Primary = Hard Disk 0 (Your Main Hard Drive)...This one is to be set as Master and plugged to the END of the IDE Cable....Another Hard Disk / Drive can be connected as Slave (sometimes Cable Select Will Work depending on the motherboard). Remember The Jumper pins on the Drives!

Secondary= One drive must be set as Master, The other as Slave.

That Should do it.

Go into your bios setup screen, go to the boot configuration and set it up so that your boot order goes as follows:
1. Floppy Disc Drive
or........
1. Optical Drive (cd or dvd)
2. Hard Disc 0 (this will be named whatever your Hard drive model number is)
3. Hard Disc 1 (this is the second hard drive, if you want it to be bootable, it's your choice, if not, then set it up to boot off your secondary optical drive,

Make Sure that under IDE devices menu, everything is detected correctly.
Now Save Settings and Exit.

That should do it

Maxtor Internal EIDE hard drive dip switch settings.

I assume you have two IDE controllers? IDE1 and IDE2, I'll try to help, the primary HD needs to have the pin set to primary and the secondary set to slave, if you're running both of these drives off of the same ribbon cable. You may have to go into your BIOS settings and check to make sure the Primary HD is the WD drive.

ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard configuration

Serial ATA drives are pretty much plug and play. You just need to install them and set them up as a primary drive in your bios settings. The IDE devices can be connected on the same ribbon cable but need to have jumpers set on the back to determine which device is primary or slave. If the IDE devices are on different ribbon cables then most likely the hard drive jumper setting should be set to master or master (single drive). The CD-ROM drive jumper on master. BIOS should detect all drives You also need to assign the boot order in BIOS. CD-ROM should be the first boot device to load and install the new OS onto the primary hard drive.
