If this is a greasy film it may be your dishwasher needs a cleaning agent run through it This is a dishwasher cleaning product which you run through the maschine ON ITS OWN.If the film is smeary it could be too much rinse aid in the mix or excessive salt

SOURCE: Dishwasher leaving film

white film is nearly always due to no rinse aid. it is laborious to do but check that rinse aid is being released. take outer door off and operate dispensor by hand to check release. also check the setting on the dispensor.
pue a multimeter on the solenoid and check that it is energised during the cycle

SOURCE: Not Cleaning Dishes

Hello there:
first you will need to check if the water supply line filter is clogged if not make sure that all of the strainers are not clogged i know that you said the spray arms are clean but if you get a real close look the nozzels expecially the end ones get clogged really easly if you use a tooth pick you can get these cleaned out if all of this does not work than i would suggest replacing the water pump this is what delovers the water under pressure to the spray arms ok
best regards mike

SOURCE: My dishes come out with cloudy film on them.

From Whirlpool:

*Film is due to either etching or silica film. Silica film is a milky, rainbow-colored deposit and etching is a cloudy film. Sometimes there is a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware.
o Silica film and etching are permanent and cannot be removed. Both can occur in any automatic dish washing machine and result from a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware. They are caused by some combination of:
+Soft or softened water.
+Alkaline washing solution.
+Insufficient rinsing.
+Dishwasher overloading.
+Heat of drying.
+Long/hot cycles.

To slow the down this process:

*Use a minimum amount of detergent but not less than 1 tablespoon per load.
*Use a liquid rinse aid.
*Under load the dishwasher to allow thorough rinsing.
*Do not use heated drying.
*Wash glasses by hand.

Do the following:

1. do you use a rinse agent
2. clean out the drain.
3. if you have a food disposal, run hot water through it and turn it on to clear it out before you turn on the dishwasher. The dishwasher drains into that sink. If you notice food or dirty water backing up into you sink when the dishwasher is draining, then the sink could have a minor clog and is backing up and being re-sprayed onto your dishes.
Source(s):
Use SANIVAC to clean lime deposits and extend the life of your dishwasher. If you have heavy water.

Run your dishwasher empty and pour in a cup of bleach and a cup of white vinegar to get the residue out.....run a regular cycle.......How hot is your hot water tank set on? The hotter the water the better a dishwasher washes and rinses, be careful it's not to hot as your shower and other sinks also will get this hot water......cut your dish soap down and make sure to use a Jet Rinse Aid. Again, be sure to use a liquid soap, and rinse agent, powders will cause a caustic reaction. Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

After running a full cycle the dishes have a film left on them. Sometimes soap is not rinsred off the dishes. Tried different soaps for dish washers. It seems the only thing to take the film off of the...

Film on dishes post cycle is caused by 2 things.... Poor water flow during the wash / rinse cycle.... i.e clogged sump inlets or restricted drains. Clean the drain hose first. Start at the cink connection and clean EVERY connection and in-line componenet from the port hole at the sink connection all the way back to the drain hise connection port at the dishwasher.

If you still have dirty dishes post cycle after drain cleaning... then remove the lower wash arm support and clean the accumulator / sump area thoroughly. See this link: (items 1 and 4) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5140844&diagram_id=28222738#d28222738

Test again.

If the problem persists you will have to gain access to the pump impeller. Inspect the impeller, and pump housing for damage. UNDER the dishwasher. Item 22 of the above link.

This should get your diswasher performing properly again.

I used this model number as a reference: GU2400XTPB1

My dishes are coming out with a white film on the glassware...also i can not get to my jet dry compartment

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter

If you are in an hard water zone , then try reducing the amount of detergent used and then try cleaning the dishes

My dishes are coming out with a kind of film on them -- especially the silverware and glasses. Now the plates even look like they have a film on them. The dishes are often still dirty.

Hi
White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.
Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.

Hi,

The scum, film and white residue problems have started since the reduction of phosphates in dishwasher detergents.

Here is a tip that will help you to solve the problem of films, residue, and scum in your dishwasher.

It' no longer cleaning my dishes

hello,

If your dishes are coming out of the dishwasher covered by a removable dirty film, your water may not be hot enough, or you could be using an inferior brand of automatic dishwashing detergent. If you have tested your hot water and find it is between 140 degrees and 160 degrees Fahrenheit, consider how long it takes for the hot water to reach the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. If the hot water has to travel a long distance to reach the dishwasher, chances are the water filling the dishwasher starts out cold. To alleviate this problem, run the hot water nearest to your dishwasher until the water coming out is hot. This will guarantee the water filling the dishwasher is as hot as it should be to properly clean dirty dishes.

To remove this type of film from dirty dishes, after running the dishes through a basic rinse cycle, set a bowl filled with a cup or two of white vinegar on the lowest rack of the dishwasher. Remove any metal pans or utensils, and with the vinegar on the bottom rack, wash the dishes as usual. Dirty dishes that were once covered in film should come out squeaky clean

thanks.

I get a film on the inside of dishwasher as well as dishes at the end of a cycle. You can really see the cloudy film on glasses. Dishwasher is only 18 months old.

Cloudy film is usually from hard water. Or it means the dishes arn't drying properly. you wanna make sure your using jet dry and that your not using liquid soap. Liquid soap is a killer of dishwashers and creates mineral deposits. If you have hard water getting a water softener helps too. Theres a cleaning agent called dishwasher magic that works to clean the dishwasher . You wanna make sure your heater is coming on too.

My dishes are coming out with a thick cloudy film

Most dishwasher detergents now have some sort of rinse agent already in them. If this is the case don't add it to your dispenser once it runs out. Too much rinse agent can cause clouding.
