If you have settings from your home on the routher you need to RESET IT TO FACTORY. You need to REBOOT ALL the PC's in the house on that router as well to release the IP it currently has and renew with the new router. Also reboot the roter and the cable modem so it can issue a new IP to the router.
( There should be a small reset hole on the router that you can use a paper clip to reset it.)
You also need to make sure that if they have a cable modem that the router is compatible with the modem. They can call their provider for that info.

Wont hook up to a connection for internet i have wireless asking for a password from belalliant

When hooking your wii up to the internet make sure you are connecting to your wireless network that you have set up at home. Make sure you have the correct password that is set up from your router setup. The password is not usually the same password you use to connect to your router via 192.168.1.1 but a different password you set up from within your router settings. You may need to refer to your routers user manual to set this up.

Can connect to router and internet by cable..unable to get wireless to connect

Reset the router with the little reset button on the back. If still no signal, then you most likely need a new router. However, don't throw the old one in the trash. If the wired ports still work, it will make an excellent bridge from your new router to another room in your house that needs wired connections. I use my old router to connect my DVR, TV, Blu-Ray, and XBox 360 to the internet using the wired ports, and have it wired to my main router. If you don't need it for that, find a friend or family member who does.

Wireless Home network will not stay connected to internet

So you have a DSL modem connected to a router connected to a wireless router connected to both your computers? Sounds like you need to just get a wireless modem and throw all the routers away.

My router wont hook back to my laptop and i forgot the password

Go to your control panle then select network connections, if you see your wireless icon, right click it and try selecting repair first.

Also, if the wireless icon is in the lower right of the monitor, right click it and view wireless networks, look for you router, then select it. Then select connect.

Want to hook laptop up to home computer via cable modem

You need a router or a wireless router to do that.
If your cable modem is wireless you can set directly via wireless network a connection with your laptop (the laptop also need a wireless card (if dont have any built in))
The connection must be done in this way

ISP ----->> Cable Modem ---->> Wireless Router o Router ----->> Computer ( 1, 2, or more)

Set up of adsl router

Try resetting the device to the default factory settings. Then see if you can get an IP address, either wireless or ethernet, to configure the router through its web interface.
