Hi there if you are having some problems with laptop starting up then i would look at the power cord that charges your battery and make shure your battery is locked in the slot as well . what type of laptop you have there ? is the power cord adapter still working ? it may not be charging your battery sometimes this will happen before you take laptop to surgury make shure that the power adapter cord is still charging battery ok to do this plug in power adapter and using a multi meter check to see the voltage that is comming from adapter plug ok on the adapter it will tell you the input voltage and the output voltage that you should be reading on your dc multimeter ok try that first ill wait on a fixya soon bye for now

Have an HP pavilion G7 wont boot, no power light , replaced mother board, still wont boot. Removed battery plugged in a/c cord still no boot? Help?

G7 what, it has full model number not just G7,
that means near zero. in fact.

what does boot mean? its a long serial process.
sure no windows (no windows stated, XP?)
the power must turn on and first.
hear that fan run? feel it blow? vents clean first.

The G7 Pavilion is both a desktop PC and a Laptop,
silly no, but HP did that, google G7 , SEE?

I guess the BATTERY thing is not the CMOS battery but the huge , Laptop battery. smart act taking it out first. they do short.
but what about sound, and the fan blowing. it must blow
or the Power pack is dead.
i bet the old mother board was ok. and you didnt do the strip down test to prove that.

ever heard of these?
1: CMOS RTC BIOS NVRAM COIN cell, replace it first.
if not the BIOS can not load configs. ever. again. bad bad bad.
2: power pack dead if fan is dead. replace it its only $8
or use a voltmeter is it enters the mobo 19vdc, is ok, less that 18v not.
3: then if the fan is still dead, power dead, BIOS dead.
and external VGA port dead to external monitors, then
we pull modules off the MOBO, up to 6 or more
they all can short and when they do, power goes to ZERO
the regulators do that by DESIGN.
(the no catch fire deal)

sure wish you said (lap or desk top sure did)
after all the Desktop PSU may be bad, if its fan is dead.

My Dell Optiplex Gx 620 isnt turning on..... No lights no sounds is it the motherboard

Bad power supply first, or just the switch. The mother board will keep it from posting, but lights should come on. a bad power supply or switch it will be dead like fred.
If your handy there are many tutorials on diagnosing a power supply on the internet. Usually when it is the mother board there will be a few beeps or flashing lights then a shut down, or frozen pc on boot then death.
But all these symptoms can come from a dead or dying power supply. Do this at own risk..

I have a Dell Latitude D610. The battery was dead (got the 4 blinking amber lights and the green light flashing once, then cycling), so I replaced the battery. The new battery has the lights on the bottom...

From the description, sounds like you have two failures, both concerning the mother board.

1. The connection to the motherboard for the battery is no longer good. Replace the mother board. The points of failure that you have given so far and has not fixed the issue. Battery fully charged, seated well, no change, mother board.

2. Laptop will come on with AC adapter attached but will not boot up; mother board. There is a built in test that you can run, from a powered down state press FN + Power button, this puts this into a diagnostic state. If it does not go into this diagnostic; mother board. The diagnostic is stored in the BIOS, which is a part of the mother board.

3. If the diagnostic runs note any error codes that it gives. They will be in the form off XXXX-XXXX or XXXX:XXXX, where the X's represent a letter or a number. These can be used for further trouble shooting.

Emachine W2646--lights blinking on keyboard, pwr lamp on speaker on,power button on tower YELLOW,NO response! unplugged several hours, now dead,as if unplugged! This happened overnight while shut off...

If you have a Yellow light on power supply, chances are you have blown the power supply.
Even with a PC unplugged in a Bad Storm, I have seen many PC's and Laptops with Supplies shoot.
If you have a little computer savvy, the best thing to do is,
1. Disconnect power.
2. Open unit.
3. Disconnect all Devices from supply.
4. Disconnect 20 04 24 pin power supply connector to mother board.
5. If you have other connectors such as 4-pin 24 Volt acc. you can disconnect that as well.
6. Now plug in the supply. Note... Some supply's have a reset located in the rear of the supply, where it makes its input ( A/C connection. ) If so try the reset. Some supply's also light up or have a service light when sensing input power, some do not.
7. If all looks good and no sparks or flames, re-connect the mother board connection, (only)
Try to power on computer.
Note..... If you still have the Yellow light, Replace the supply.

In some cases, the power supply sees a fault and fold back to a protection mode.
The supply has several Capacitors in which hold a charge and when connected to the mother board retain that charge. Disconnecting the Mother Board 20- 24 pin connector will allow this charge to dissipate.
If all works after reconnecting supply, Your Good To Go.!!!
If not, you may need another Power supply.
Or may have done other damage.

Hope all works out for you.
Try it, it may work...

Twinhead Efio 121i dead

It is problem with your laptop's SMPS ie. Switched Mode Power Supply.

Due to which your laptop can't get regulated power supply neither from Power Cord nor from Battery.

Yes, your LED will show charging but its useless because your laptop's Mother Board Chip is not getting power.

So please ask some hardware engineer to replace it.

Rate this solution if it was helpful to you.

EMachine T3406 wont boot

is there a post beep when the pc is switched on. check the memory if it is a beep beep beep sound , also disconect the hard drive, dvd drive, floppy, and any usb devices and see if it boots up. if that fails it does seem like the mother board, also check the cpu fan has it stoped. also find out the power switch conector on the mother board, from the base unit switch to the mother board. also chech the power connector from the power supply to the mother board , on newer boards there are two that go to the mother board its self , a big one and a very small one .

Toshibas are dieing on me.

How about if you boot with just the battery in? Does the battery charge? Possible solution include: remove and replace memory chips to make sure they are seated correctly. Check with a known good power supply. Almost sounds like a motherboard issue to me. Plenty of laptop problems are related to bad solder joints on the motherboard, unless you or someone you know can open it up and find a bad joint the only solution is mother board replacement. Try reseating the memory first.
