Make sure you have not protected the drive and that it is shared for use. Go to my computer, right click on the drive and select sharing .. make sure you have the drive shared and that it DOES NOT show it as READ ONLY in the check boxes at the bottom of the screen.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Need to find how to allow access to old hard drive. hard drive loads up and opens ,but when i click on file access is denied

You are not giving a lot of information (like what operating system you are using, what privileges your account has, etc). However, it sounds like a permissions issue - make sure you are logged in as an administrator.

Also, if the drive was originally encrypted, you may need to have your login account set up with the same user name and password that the old drive originally had in order to access the files.

Did you format the disk using NTFS? Have you loaded the software that came with the drive? Once the software is loaded it will take you thu the steps to set it up properly

Reduced Hard Drive Capacity with Internal to External Kit

Problem can be tricky.. though i offer my two cents.

1. some BIOS have upper limit of hard disk capacity. check that out. try connecting IDE device to IDE connector in same comp and see if it is being detected properly.

2. seagate guys are true .. IDE to usb conversion can be tricky ... a lot depends on card convertor.

my advice would be if you have precious data on it ... first take a backup of it, if possible connecting the disk to nomal ide connector.

Files disappearing on external hard-drive (nexstar.3)

In this case you should use data recovery software to try recovering the files and data, provided those lost data are not fully overwrtten.

Be careful: Before your files are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the external in case the original files are overwritten.
