Question about Hunter 21617 Palermo Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

Magic fan I apparently have a magic Hunter Palermo fan. My fan/light sometimes turns on automatically (eg. in the middle of the night) without me touching the remote. Sometimes the light comes on, sometimes the fan comes on at different speeds. It's been doing this since it was installed. This occurs relatively infrequently...like once a day or so if I leave the switch in the on position. I would suspect it is picking up signals from somewhere but since it happens in the middle of the night, I can't imagine where from? If it were crossed wires, I would think it would always be just the light or just one speed of the fan rather than a random assortment. Anyone have a clue how this might happen? The Palermo 21617 fans were not used last winter season. This summer only one will turn on with the remote, after switching off at the wall for >5sec. Light and fan will work for about 1/2 minute and then shut itself off. The remote will not re-activate it. The wall switch must be cycled off for several seconds, first. Both fixtures are set to the same remote code. Prior to self-shutdown, if I try to cycle the light/fan off and then on again with the remote, it goes off but will not turn back on without cycling the wall switch. I do not understand the relevance of the infrared detector problem suggestion, since the remote works via rf signal, not infrared. The fixture IS receiving the remote's signals.

One night the fan turned off as we slept and last night, it's lights came on in the middle of the night.

The electronic control unit in the fan might be going/has gone bad. Depending on the amount of money a new one might be, it may be adviseable on getting a new fan.

Hunter ceiling fan(French Quarter model) remote

The fan receiver is receiving signals of the proper frequency from sources other than your remote. This is very common. Could even be your neighbors remote...if you have neighbors...

If it's a real problem for you, you could try changing the frequency on your units (see owner's manual) -- that might help, or it might make it worse.

Magic fan

Sounds like a defective infrared sensor in the fan. I assume you have tried removing the batteries in the remote to rule out the remote. I don't think you have a wiring issue....your light works and the fan works. Typical fan wiring involves the fan & lights. The wiring for the infrared should already be wired from the factory. Its in the infrared detection circuit.

Good luck!

Hunter ceiling fan w/ remote won't work

You need to change the receiver inside the fan. It is located in the top canopy of the fan. you don't have to buy a new remote just the receiver to save money and match the dip switches to the remote.
