There is a green sound cable, a cable that comes out of a socket that says 12V DC 1.0A and a pink tipped cable which I assume is the mic. cable.

    Only...

    It doesn't have an adapter?

    What kind would I need?

I figured out they are Compac JBL Platinum Computer Speakers.

can you tell me what cables are coming out from the speakers?

Basicly there should be one for power and one for sound.

The sound goes into the green sound port in the back of the computer.

No sound from speakers

Probably.
Do they connect to the computer via USB or mini plug?
If mini plug, make sure you have the right jack on the back of the computer (there's two)
Then go into System Preferences ... select "Sound" and see if you can select something other than "Internal Speakers" - the computer may just not be aware that you want to use the external speakers ...
Are the speakers powered? Is there a volume control on the subwoofer, or an external fob with a volume control on it? You probably know this if you used them previously with your Compaq computer ...

Good luck!

How do i hook up my creative speakers to my computer

At the back of the computer you will see a plate with three sockets, Blue, Pink and Black. They would be marked Headphones, Mic and line out. You must connect your speakers into the one marked Line Out. Power on the speakers and you are on.

No speaker hook up on new moniter

If your old monitor was a Compaq, it had slots for the speakers to hang on and provided the power for the speakers. The speakers still got their input from a cable that plugged into the computer sound output jack. If those speakers are the style Compaq supplied when I worked at a Compaq service shop, they originally came with metal stands that fit into slots on the back so you could stand them up on their own, and a 12-volt power adapter so you could use them without the monitor. If you don't have those pieces, you can buy a suitable power adapter (12 volts DC at 1 amp) at Radio Shack but the speaker stands are hard to find. You could try eBay, or just make a holder of some kind. (A friend of mine used those little wooden stands you can buy to display plates to hold her speakers when she got a new monitor. They worked out pretty well.)

Or you can replace the speakers. A new set would have everything you need. But those Compaq speakers sounded pretty good, so if they're still working you might want to keep them.

JBL PLATINUM SERIES SPEAKERS

It is possible, but you may run into a problem with the amplification to be able to hear the speaker. Without knowing exactly what your setup is the best I can say is to attempt to hook them up to your headphone jack and see how well they work. If you don't hear anything, you need an amplifier. If you hear a distorted sound, but volume is not an issue, use the line out jack and see if it is any better.
