I get no sound on my laptop pcg-7d2l, the headphone jack does not work either.

First make sure you don't just have it muted... seems simple but its happens. Open the volume controls and make sure the mute is not checked. If that doesn't work, try removing the sound card drivers and reinstalling them after a reboot. If both the speakers and the headphones don't work its most likely the drivers, however there is a chance the sound card has gone bad as well. . . Try the driver reinstall and if that doesn't work you will need to have it serviced.

Sound Loss in Dell Computer Headphones b> Most Dell computers have special hardware and software that are set up to automatically adjust the configuration of the headphone ports when headphones are connected, muting the primary speakers in the process. If no sound is coming out of your headphones, this is most likely caused by a configuration issue that can be resolved with a few simple steps.

Basic Headphone Troubleshooting
If no sound is coming from your headphones, confirm that the headphones work properly by using them with a different device. After this, confirm that the headphones are plugged into the proper jack. If your CD/DVD drive has a headphone jack in front, audio will only be played through this jack when you are playing a disc. On a desktop computer, the correct jack to use for headphones is usually color-coded green, while notebook computers will have headphone icons next to the correct jacks. Finally, check the speaker icon in the system tray to make sure that your sound output is not muted. b> Troubleshooting Notebooks b> Most Dell notebooks use a special type of audio jack. If this does not happen when headphones are plugged in, the sound drivers may be at fault. Visit the Dell support website and download the most recent sound drivers for your notebook. Headphone jack not functioning properly


This is the normal way for this laptop ..leave it always with the headphones on selected in that list ..cause if the main speakers don't work well there is no point in using them ..This way you will run whatever yo will plug in ..speakers or headphones..The only setting difference in headphones and stereo out ..is that for headphones will but the speakers of the laptop when plugged in ..This way it will even help you if the speakers are making weird noises cause they are damaged ..

Here are some things to check:

  • If you have external speakers, make sure that they're plugged into a working power source and that they're turned on.

  • Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to the computer.

    On your speakers, make sure that the cable that plugs into your computer is plugged into both the speakers and the correct jack on your computer (the jack that goes to your sound card). Most sound cards have at least three jacks. Plug the speaker cable into the line-out jack. This jack often has a symbol showing an arrow pointing away from the jack. If the jacks aren't labeled, check the information that came with your computer to see what each jack does.

  • Make sure the speaker volume isn't turned down too low or muted. This is particularly important for laptops, which often have small speakers that can be hard to hear.

    2. Move the slider up to increase the volume.

    To make sure that your computer has a sound card

    To make sure that your sound card is working properly

Please clarify, Where is the Headphones connected? Front or back? if you tried it on the Front port without success, Plug in the speaker jack to the port where you did connect the Headphone and verify it's working or not. You can also try the headphone on the port where the speaker is connected.

Broken headphone jack


you should be able to get it out from the inside on the card. Do you have a sound card or is your sound on the motherboard?

Acer laptop no sound in headphone jack


I have an Acer Aspire 7720z and have had the same problem. I am assuming your OS is Vista.

Go to Control Panel -open "Sounds" folder and you should see "Headphones" in the list under "Speakers". There will be a green tick on the "Speakers" symbol. Right click on the headphones symbol and then click "Set as Default device". Click OK and the headphone socket should now work correctly. It sorted my problem. If you want to go back to using the crappy internal speakers follow the same procedure setting the speakers as your default device.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 without the webcam .. when I use my headphone jacks in the front of my laptop I'm able to hear but the they can't hear me through my headset microphone. They're only able to...


Be sure that your headphone mic plug jack is plugged in to the mic jack (right-most jack) and not the second headphone jack. If so, check your sound setting in Control Panel and make sure the mic is enabled and the volume slider for it is up.

No sound with new Vizio 22" LCD TV being used as monitor


you have to hook up the 1/4 headphone jack plug to the TV, from the computer. an Y audio cable with RCA plug (male) with headphone 1/4 male plug. hook the headphone jack to the green hole of the computer(sound out) to the audio input of the TV better yet to a stereo AUX port. also make sure the mute button hasnt been pressed.

Plugging headphones into the computer will disable sound output from the sound card by design.
