Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

We have a Compaq computer. Audio is not working. Sound comes thru on an occasional e-card but not all. Nothing else. It says it is disabled in one place and says it is working in another. I once tried, months ago to adjust the volume on the toolbar and think I may have accidentally disabled it and now it does not respond when I follow the instructions to fix or adjust it. It just will not do anything.

This almost new unit has lost sound output completely.

Return it under warranty, the unit is faulty. There is an internal component like a capacitor going bad or a bad connection on the circuit board.

Ext in problem

if you are using the ext in then it has to be something wrong with the setup from the pc. The receiver does nothing to the ext in input except amplify it and put it out to the speakers.

Normally you would to the TV settings under audio you would have to disable the tv audio and point it to your receiver I assume you have a surround sound. Make sure you are also using the right audio cable RCA or digital optic cable

System has power and cd's spin but no sound coming from the speakers. checked all connections and tried speakers with a different system they work fine. Please advise, Frank

First, check volume levels in mixer, both output volume and cd input volumes...Go to control panel>sound and audio devices>hardware and check to see that your sound card and drivers are working properly. Use troubleshooter if devices are disabled or not working properly. Make sure advanced settings for sound are correct for your speaker type....

No sound

I had the same problem on 3/21/09...I found it was the PS3 settings. I had to go into the visual settings (not sound) and change the linear sound to optic digital...but I also had to purchase a digital optical cable...plug everything into your tv instead of the receiver and then hook up the digital optical cable from your tv to the receiver. A it will work and b it is a better sound quality than that of the HDMI cable.

When I try to play an audio file on my computer, it says that it seems that no sound device is installed or working on my computer. What's a sound device and how can I solve this problem ?

a sound device is a dedicated board the fits in a free PCI slot(inside the PC) and produces all of the sounds once connected to a set of speakers, hifi unit, some newer PC's come with built in sound cards

not all cards are the same quality some are standard stereo and some are full theatre quality(dolby,THX etc)
so its wise to find a solution for your needs as many aspects of newer cards may never be needed

maybe you have a sound card in your system and have not yet installed drivers if you right click on my computer(on desktop) and use the properties in the menu, you will see a new box ,goto the HARDWARE tab and then the DEVICE MANAGER tab
click the + next to sound, video, gamecontrollers

if u see any mention of an audio device right clickit and select UPDATE DRIVER

but remember a sound card must be connected to speakers or a hifi unit to produce the sound

I have no sound coming out of my cumputer speakers

Check to see if the drivers are installed correctly. Check to see that the volumes in the media controls are turned up and nothing is muted.

If the above does not work:
Try another set of speakers. If the new speakers do not work, try another sound card.

The Sound is Gone.

Hi....
The circuits that routes all the audio signals thru the amp has either died OR the power supply that runs that circuit has died.
Estimate to fix : $75-125
