The usb ports on my v2000 no longer work. When I plug in any USB device it is not recognized. Everything else on the machine is working fine (wifi, ethernet, DVD - CDRW, etc.).
I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but that has not worked. Could it be a hardware problem?
Ma usb is reli makin me go crazy,it recognizes onli 1 of my fons @ de port on de left side,put plugged in on the otha side,the phone senses the usb connection but de laptop dosn't.Apart from de fon anythin i plugged in so far doen't work even a mouse,de optical lite under de mouse doesn't even lite up.its de same on de otha port which works wit de fon n onli de fon.pls i need help,u think its hadware or sumthin diff?????????????am open 2 any opinion,thankz,I use a compaq Presario C727US notebook Pc

If you short the usb connection controlled can burn out so it will not detect any device but your are tated that USB device is not recoginzed - if this message came that means your usb is ok the device you are attaching is not working

Try reinstalling the usb drivers for your computer. You can also check to see if its a hardware issue by pluging a usb powered device like a cooling pad in the usb port. If it gets power, chances are its a software issue. If no, then its a hardware issue.
Hi In your device list, don't you see USB ports isntalled? If not, you need to install them first. And if you can't have them installed or recognized by windows, you should enable them from your BIOS setup. In your Bios Setup, search for "On Board Devices" and go to "On Board USB" then change it to Enable if it's Disable. Save changes, restart you computer, then wait for windows to log on and wait for the USB ports to be recognized by Windows. Finally try the Printer. If the problem presets, you may need to buy a USB Card which is not expensive.

Reinstall your USB drivers: Navigate to Device manager, find a branch named "USB Controllers" or similar Right click the one thats the problem (or all of them if you dont know which), select Uninstall Reboot your machine and windows will autodetect the USBs and reinstall their drivers.
I have the same problem with my Compaq Presario V2000. Lost both USB ports and HP tells me that the motherboard has to be replaced at $300 +..I searched and found a PCMCIA card with two USB ports for $10. No problems with the USB ports on this card..great and cheap solution.
My belief is that the compaq usb ports do not have power limiting circuitry therefore allowing you to overload the output power on the ports. My ports failed after I downloaded into a burglar alarm system I was programming.
If you have done a system restore you have probably restored your problem with limewire also, although what it is that's related I don't know, it's more than likely a dial up or connection problem that is causing limewire to freeze yur system.
Check your usb ports in device manager see if there is an exclamation mark or a cross, then refer to this solution for further checks.
