Burnt dvds read as blank. Sometimes work, but usually don't. can go either way with the same dvd at different times. It can and has happened with purchased cd and dvd. Though less likely.

Your Dvd drive is bad, it is not getting the data to burn, the laser that does the writing isn't writing the data to the disc. and option B is also depending on what program you are using to burn the dvd's and cd and following the correct steps. If all is good and you followed the right steps to it, then you need to replace your dvd/cd drive,

MY dell inspiron 1000 plays cd's but will not recognize any dvd's. help!

Its possible the drive is going bad or if you did not buy this new the previous owner may have taken the DVD drive out and replaced it with just a CD drive, one way to check this on your dell is to look at the picture below and you will see that it says dvd on it, Check to see if yours looks the same if it is not the same chances are it was replaced. You can always right click on the cd drive within my computer and go to properties and see what it says, Hope this helps you out and should you need any other help let us know thanks again.

Gateway 420gr the HL DT ST DVDRAM GSA 4120B reads and burn CDs /cannot read DVDs inc Restore DVD

It's time to spend $40 to buy a replacement CD/DVD-writer.
There's no way to "fix" your "half-gassed" DVD-drive.
A technician would charge at least $25 to _look_ at your computer.
Instead, "invest" the $25 in a replacement.

No music on burned discs

You need to try a commercial cd of any kind. You just want to see if it reads the cd. Then you want to try a dvd and see if it reads that. If it reads the cd but has trouble with the dvd then the heads are out of alignment. It might still write a cd but not be able to write a dvd as that require more accuracy and it doesn't have it anymore.

You may still be able to use the drive but you will have to replace it. The symptoms you describe are typical of the driver going out of alignment so I would say you are heading for replacement sooner or later.

These are not cost effective to repair anymore so all you can do is replace them. Unless you can get it replaced under warranty you can replace it for under $50 at any local computer store.

I have a gateway with windows xp and my dvd rom won't read dvd-r

it could be that your dvd drive is only able to read dvd discs not to burn them, if its a combo drive its very likely a cd burner that can read dvd discs.

if you send me the brand and model or the full name / details of the drive I could check on it.

E Drive refuses to read DVDs.

Maybe problem is that the lens of your DVD is dirty or maybe totally retiring. Because know what? CD/DVD writing wont last for a long period of time, theres also a limitation in burning. If you think that I am wrong Kindly try this:

* Clean the lens with CD/DVD cleaner
* Open the your dvd drive and clean the lens manually with cotton [also look for any damage on the board of the drive]

Hope it help!

It sounds as if the drive needs cleaning and re aligning with a lens cleaner or replacing, but try one thing before doing anything. Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete. Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers.

iTunes can no longer find my CD burner. Using a gatewayM-1631U laptop, with windows 7 x 64 home premium edition. (See additional details below). I use iTunes regularly, and as recently as Xmas 2009 was burning music CDs frequently on my laptop. Yesterday I attempted to burn a CD, and iTunes no longer recognizes the installed CD burner. I have not installed any programs to my computer recently, or made any other changes. Today I began investigating the issue. I have tried (not in order) the following - and have not solved the issue: 1. Going to the registry editor and deleting the lower and upper filters associated with the H_KEY_LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/CLASS 4DE3695 .... 2. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (9.0.2.25) 3. Repair iTunes 9.0.2.25 4. Looked for updates for the drivers (can't find any) 5. Downloading Gearsoft products I admit that I have not tried Windows Media Player (because I'm committed to my iTunes - I sync with my ipod all the time and listen to it alot). I also realize I may have made the problem worse by some of my attempted fixes. Here is the information gathered through itunes diagnostics: Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Edition (Build 7600) Gateway M-1631U iTunes 9.0.2.25 QuickTime 7.6.5 FairPlay 1.5.23 Apple Application Support 1.1.0 iPod Updater Library 9.0d11 CD Driver 2.2.0.1 CD Driver DLL 2.1.1.1 Apple Mobile Device 2.6.0.32 Apple Mobile Device Driver not found. Video Display Information ATI Technologies Inc., ATI Radeon X1200 Series **** External Plug-ins Information **** No external plug-ins installed. iPodService 9.0.2.25 is currently running. iTunesHelper 9.0.2.25 is currently running. Apple Mobile Device service 2.50.39.0 is currently running. **** CD/DVD Drive Tests **** No drivers in LowerFilters. UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.2.0.1), Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380. Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly. Additionally, the device driver says my DVD/CD unit is: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A ATA Device Anything else you need to help me figure this out? Could really use help and advice. Thanks in advance.
