Sometimes there are also colored lines through much of the scan

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

My printer is hp photosmart 7350

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

This did not help. The dark line is close to the bottom about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

So far no change. I still have that line

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

I deleted and then reinstalled my scanner but there were no changes in that result

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

I tried this but though the line is a little fainter, it is also a little wider

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

This did not help either but thanks for your assistance

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

The light bar works just fine, no stalling or anything

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

It is out of warranty but I thank you for all your time and trouble.

  • Lucky4 Jul 19, 2008

I feel there is no problem whatsoever with your help but the problems lie in my equipment. They have both been used a lot and may just need replacement. thanks for all your time and effort

Make sure there is no film on the scanner glass on either side. Sometimes the film or residue is hard to see with the eye. Clean the area of the glass where the line shows up on the paper. Also check that the white backdrop plastic on the lid is clean.

If that doesn't work, do a scan with the lid open and watch the light bar move. See if the light goes out or flickers in that area where the line shows up. Also check to see if the light bar stalls or anything in that spot. Could have a bad belt with a bad tooth on it causing it to stall a bit and so the light stays in the spot too long and over exposes that area.

If any of this helps you please rate me. Thanks.

The printer need to be taken apart and to be cleaned inside.

All you can do by yourself is this simple procedure:
Get a rime of blank paper.
Create a new document in Word and leave it blank
print 200 or 300 copies of the blank page.

If the above does not work all you can do is taking the printer to a shop for a professional cleaning of the inside.

Try the trick above first.

My solution was for the printer , when you have a dark line in the scanner:
If it is vertical clean glass, form inside and outside. Cleaning inside parts require disassembly, this should be done by a technician.
If it is a spot on a corner or an horizontal line on lower or upper side of scanned document, then it is the lamp.
In this case you need to replace the lamp.

Let me know if you need further info.

Try covering the scanner with a thick towel as to shield off any light then try scanning.. If the line is gone, means light is getting in the scanner and you will have to check the door for a small opening and see whats causing it then replace it..

If the line is still there means that there is something mechicinally wrong with the scanner, more than likely its ithe imaging sensor. This can be replace providing you can find a cheap replacement. More oftes is better to toss it out and but a new one cost wise..

Hi-

1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water.
3. If the document table glass gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid.
4. Ensure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned images.

*** CAUTION: Do not press on the document table glass too hard.

5. Be careful not to scratch or damage the document table glass, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality.
6. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case.
7. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry.
8. Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner.
9. Never open the scanner case.

***NOTE: Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.

Try cleaning first your scanner follow this steps:

Gather your cleaning materials. You'll need a soft, lint-free cloth (anti-static rags are particularly good for this purpose); and Endust for Electronics, an eyeglass cleaner, or a mild, non-streak glass cleaner.
Step2Check your owner's manual. If the manufacturer has provided specific instructions, follow them.
Step3Unplug the scanner.
Step4Spray glass cleaner on your cloth.
Step5Raise or remove the scanner lid.
Step6Wipe glass until visible dust specks and grease have been removed.
Step7Immediately wipe the screen dry with a dry portion of the rag or a second rag.
Step8If you are not satisfied with the results, repeat the process.
Step9Clean the chassis with the same fluid or with any other product suitable for cleaning plastic. (Some manufacturers recommend mild detergent dissolved in water.)
Step10Clean under the glass (the underside of the glass and inside of the chassis) only if recommended by the manufacturer. Some manufacturers recommend carefully cleaning the mirror with a camel-hair brush or compressed air; most manufacturers recommend professional service for interior cleaning.

Hope that helps.....

    Hi,
But still you can try these,

Basically, these are a few known problems (about lines):

1, Green line appears align with the wheels when scanning photos. It
seems to be a combination of mirror alignment and dust/static problem.
Sometimes it will appear and may go away if you turn it off and clean
    the mirrors with compression air.

Did you use the supplied blower to remove any dust particles from the
neg strip before you inserted it? You might also try turning the
scanner on its side, opening the lid, and using the supplied blower to
clean the optics inside. Follow HP's instructions on cleaning, found in
    the manual.

    2, Self-destruct with a line (2-5 pixels wide) appears
in all scans. This is the self-destruction feature in the Photosmart
scanner. The problem (given by other people on the web) is the glue HP
uses to glue the glass that protect the CCD is too strong. After using
the scanner for a while (1-2 years) (the glass expands and contracts
due to heat), it breaks with a hair-line fracture. Unless your scanner
is still under warrenty, the cost to repair the scanner will pay for a
    new one.

Please post back for how things turned on or for further help!..Thank you!

    Regards!!..

Check the scanner glass for ink or lint residue. This is what normally causes lines on faxed and scanned documents and pictures. Here is a link to explains it and shows where to check for the residue.

Problem with my Magnavox DVD player, DP100MW8, picture dark and lines across the screen

Hi, if the lines are diagonal sounds like it is set to progressive scan mode-which means if there is not a switch on back saying P/S and interlaced then you need to connect to T.V. with component video inputs ( indicated by red, green, and blue colored R.C.A. plug inputs) and Pan and Scan capable-then in menu setting select interlaced picture output. hope this was of use, good luck prodzilla

My scanner when it scans there are little lines accross the picture it does not matter if I print it straight out or save it anything scanned HP photosmart c5180 all in one any thoughts

if the lines are in the direction of paper feed, the problem is probably dirt or ink from ball points on the glass. Against the dark background it is very hard to see. Try alcohol on a clean cloth and scrub the glass vigorously.
It could be that the ink cart are getting plugged up or just needs replaced.

When I scan a photo, my Brookstone IConvert photo scanner has white lines all over the pictures.

The reason it has white lines is because the glass is dirty in the inside. If it has one speck of anything inside the scanner it turns into a line because it stays in that one place as the picture slides over it. So that line is actually a dot that is covering the picture throughout the scan. The solutions don't work. I don't suggest taking yours apart. I took mine apart and cleaned the glass. The pictures scanned fine and then the lines show up again. The real solution is to get your money back if you can. It will do this over and over. It's a design flaw in the scanner. The picture is actually squeezed as it it scanned. As pictures are squeezed against the glass... residue builds no matter how clean your pictures are.

Scans slides too dark.

maybe the slides are too dark, in other words, the pictures you took didn't have enough exposure therefore you it shows up dark.. You could always use photoshop or someother photo manipulation software to lighten the scan, same thing happens with my hp scanner with slide adapter, if it slides just show up dark, lightening it with software will help, unless it is unsaturated/shadows too dark, etc..

Hope this helps.

Scan lines at top of screen

Not likely . Sound like you have vertical overscan problem due to a capacitor or two going weak. If you continue to run the tv with this as your problem your vertical section could over heat making the output IC fail causing a flat line going side to side . Good luck
