Go to my computer and move the mouse over to the CD drive. Press the right mouse button and select properties. Go to the CD recording and enable CD recording on the drive.

You might have to adjust your CD speed settings to get it to work.

I have never had a problem with my burner now it is telling me to connect and to restart the player

Hello latashajones,

Please check if the wire from your burner is properly connected. You might also need to update the burner with the CD driver of your burner.

If that won't work, try to uninstall & reinstall the burner using the CD driver.

Hope that helps.

Yours truly,
Art Pena

I want to install a 2nd dvd burner. But I don't know how to hook it up. My new pc does not have the ribbons like my old one does.

If your 2nd DVD burner is on IDE interface, you may need to get an IDE to SATA cable. Please refer to the picture below as to how it looks like:

I'm trying to install a DVD burner into my Dell GX520 (mini tower) and can't work it out ... can anyone help?

If you install the DVD drive on the same IDE cable as the hard drive using the second connector, then the jumper on the DVD burner has to be set to SLAVE.
If you elect to install the DVD burner on the cable which is connected to the second IDE controller (this is the preferred way), then the jumper setting can be set to either MASTER or SLAVE provided there are no other devices on this cable.
When the computer boots up go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the DVD burner, if not then the jumper settings on the DVD burner is not correct.

Reduce the rate of the burn or buy a new burner, as any error will cause the burner to fault.

Sonic record now program will not find cd drive

  1. Update your drive's firmware/drivers. Most companies regularly update their firmware and drivers. If you are unsure what model your burner is and its firmware, click here to find out.

  2. Enable DMA. Direct Memory Access enables better efficiency of data. For more info, check how to enable DMA.
  3. Your media. Check the following:
    • The disc is clean and unused.
    • The media is recommended by your burner's manufacturer or try a different brand, preferably a name brand, if you continue to have problems.
    • Make sure that media (-R/+R, -/+RW, dual-layer compatibility) is supported by the burner by checking burner's manual or manufacturer's website. This is especially true for some Blu-Ray burners which do not support CD-R/RW media.

  4. Lower the write speed of your burner.
  5. If your burner is external, make sure it is connected directly to the computer via USB/Firewire and not a hub or other other device like a sound card.
  6. Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market.
  7. A reinstall of the burner's drivers may also help.
    • Windows XP: Go to My Computer and choose Properties.
    • Windows Vista: Go to Start --> Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Device Manager.
    • Click on the Hardware tab.
    • Select Device Manager
    • Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives, then select your burner and uninstall it by right -licking on it.
    • Reboot.

How do i install a new dvd burner on to my computer to allow me to burn from one drive to another

If you are referring to the overall act of getting the hardware and installing it, you generally remove the appropriate drive bay cover where you want the burner to get installed, put it in, and line it up evenly. There should be two small screw holes on each side of the burner, and you will need to line these up with either the holes or slots on the side of the drive bay and place screws in them in order to hold the burner in place. For an IDE connection, you will need the IDE cable where you have the capability to connect two devices together and into the motherboard. One drive will connect to the end of the cable and one to the center. You will also need to connect a power connector from the power supply to the burner. There should be a male connection on the back of the burner. Usually you will set your jumpers where one player is the master and one is the slave, but in my experience I just set them both as masters. I have never had a problem doing this. Sometimes you will need to install the software drivers that come with the burner, but if you have a newer operating system, it should auto detect without you having to do more. Other than that, you just need good burning software.

Firewire problem I think - I have a Sony Vaio laptop, the firewire port is 4 pin, it is connected to a LaCie CD Burner via 6 pin and the burner is daisy chained to a AcomData external hard drive via 6 pin....

If the hub has an external power supply it migh do the trick. That way you can have a backup port if needed.

Make sure the hard drive isn't connected to the hub. Sometime windows doesn't see it when its connected to a hub.
