I have VX11KV03 and I am having exactly the same issues; phone reseting to default display, sound, etc and trouble charging. Verizon tech support suggest a *211 call to update the software. Also, with the charging, even though this is still a hassel, unplug and replug in your phone after it says charge is complete. It will actually fill the charge the second time. Hopefully this wroks!
Its not the battery. My VX9900 shuts off randomly (powercycles) when Im using the IM app., and has recently started doing it with direct texting. Searching around the web I discovered its a fairly common issue with the VX9900. It turns out theres a firmware upgrade available that fixes the issue and adds a few more features to the phones software. Best to just take it back to Verizon and ask for the firmware upgrade to T99VZV04. From what I understand they may need to keep the phone for a day, but ive heard of people having it done on the spot, taking about 30 min. I also understand its a no charge update. Just make sure to back up your contacts and remove the SD card! I havnt had a chance to take mine in yet, but will be asap..its getting worse and really annoying!
This isn't really a solution but just my advice: regardless of whether it's a problem with the phone or the software, you'd have to either take it to a Verizon Wireless location to have them try and fix it (which is highly unlikely) or call up tech support. To me it sounds like some kind of software problem because it's highly unlikely that BOTH the inside & outside end/pwr buttons would be broken but ALL the other buttons on the phone work just fine. Most likely, as long as the phone hasn't been mishandled, ex.:dropped in water or on the ground, they will probably send you a "certified like new" phone in the same color/style as long as it's in stock, and then you will have to send back your phone. My one question is this: if you are not in a call but go into, say, your pictures folder or your contacts, and then push the end/pwr button, will it work then and take you back to the main screen or does it just completely not work at all in any fashion? Good luck!
So, This Isn't Really And Uncommon Problem With This Phone, Mine Does It Whenever i Put It In My Pocket, The Best Thing To Do For This Is To Take It In To Where It Was Purchased And Report The Problem, Thats What I Did And I Got A New One Free Of Charge Due To Faulty Manufacturing.
Most of the time it is just old software on the phone. Try to take the phone to a Verizon corp store and see if it needs flashed with new software. If it already has current software then it needs to be replaced. Once the phones start randomly shutting off there is no turning back. The processor on the phone is shot at this point.
Both Verizon and LG are aware of the issue.
