My ps2 won't read dvd movies. I put them in and nothing happens. even when i click the browse selection. It plays the games just fine, but doesn't seem to read the movies at all.

Your laser is probably on its way out -- as a laser starts to fail, it will first stop reading PS2 games (but will read some DVD movies OK). It will then stop reading DVD movies and only play CDs. The problem can be with your scanning lens that might be dirty.Clean your PS2 lens first.Watch this video to learn how to clean PS2 lens.

If you keep using it to read CDs, it will eventually stop reading those too and the laser will die altogether. This is one of the most common problem faced by old thick pS2..........but dOn wOrRy all u hAv to do is to turn on uR pS2 witthout puttin a DVD oR aNy diSc........on mEnu screen gOto [options] by pRessing 'triangle' button......... a new screen will appear select by pressing 'X' [DISC SPEED]....n sEt it to fAst.....then insert the DVD movie........tURn off PS2....press n hold the reset button till the blue light is turned on......release the button and press it again.............. it wOuld take a little tYm foR uR DVD movie to be loAded........be patient till the movie plays it self..............

sounds like it bumped the laser alignment out of wack do a google search for ps2 slim laser alignment howto and it should bring up the steps you need

my playstation wont play ps3 games but it will play movies and ps2 games.if i put a ps3 game in it frezzes...

You might need to get your ps2 modified so it can read all kinds of disc...i had the same problem before with my console so i took it to a shop and got it checked and modified. when i got my console back it was working really well.

If you have a 40GB it has absolutely NO backwards compadability with PS2.

Make sure the disk is compatible and not damaged.Try playing another disk and see what happens if you still do not get anything you may want to consider a xbox or 360 with remote control for dvds. Also check to see if ps2 has a remote for playing dvd disc. never worry!!
